Hi Spiky,

Looking good mate, are you going to clean up the engine a bit, powder coat the inlet manifold etc ?

My car is still stood in my garage without engine and i miss driving it, im looking at fitting my GTI 6 engine

in april time, then the rest of the car ie, suspension etc all sorted by around june-july time hopefully, carn't wait !!

I'l just have to make do with driving my standard 205 GT an my standard 306 GTI 6 for now, although they are good

to drive, still nothing like the feeling i get from my 205 GTI.

I do.

Every project thread has it's value, no matter whether the subject matter is considered wrong or right.

It's up to you if you can be bothered to stick around, but it would be a shame to deprive those members who are interested just because a few people don't agree with how you do things.

I did say it looking good, more pictures of 205's are always good, this is the site to post them any how.

You know what your doing, any how so who cares if people say neg sh*t, take it in your stride. You never know there

maybe some useful stuff in their post's.

Any advice given on here by any member, especially the established/experienced bunch, is usually given through experience of the problems they are trying to warn you about. And there isnt much point in people posting 'i like that' if they dont actually like something. This really isnt the right forum for you if thats what you are looking for.

if you look back through here, i HAVE taken on advice of some people in reagards of my conversion, which has gone through many stages.

i'd be stupid not too.

BUT

i have done some things different to my car, which have been fine since they were done, which proves the "tried and test way" isn't always the only way to go, which this forum doesn't seem to like.

i guess people dont like change..

edit to add

people also here offer VERY BAD advice.

like telling me an mi16 engine mount fits a gti6....

or like say 185lbs springs are the best for my car (even though i commented saying it was a full blown track car)

both of those are just 2 things that cost me money for no reason.

thats not mentioning being sold a seized 309 rear beam or 2 gearbox's which were supposed to be 1.6 but where 1.9's

i think its very rare that people actually run a dedicated trackday car hence the bad advice about the springs. I wouldnt run less than 280lb and with experience under the belt i'd run 300lb+

Maybe 180lb are best on road tyres.

thats my point, 185 is perfect for raod cars

i listened to their advice spent money and it was wrong,

so whats to say other "advice" is right..... as i have already pointed out other issues i've had

i run 300lbs springs now

In fact 185lbs isnt even perfect for road tyres and a GTI6 engine. I started off running my car on this and it was badly undersprung, going coilbound and even damaging the spring in the end. Running 225lb now and seems about perfect for my setup on the road. So look how easy it is, you have just put forward some bad advice yourself! Its very easy for wires to become crossed and people get the wrong end of the stick.

Fair enough that advice was wrong. But you cant then assume that everyone else is wrong and you know better. Nobody stops learning about these things, but if you try something and it doesnt work, its best just to get over it and make it right, not get moody about it and start getting shirty with the entire forum because its cost you a couple of quid.

but after all the advice i've had how can i then know whats right and wrong

i actually did a few track days with 185 spings, and even though it was not right, it was that bad

so not totally bad advice, its also down to personal choice.

you'll never see a single post saying i'm always right, as i know that would be a total lie... my main job in life is Computer networks, not cars, so always learning

what i dont take on board someome saying i have xxx years in doing this and yours (mine) is wrong. when in fact i've proved it's not :)

As said, all build threads are nice to see and read. Most people, if not all, are always interested in what other peoples builds are like. Even if they dont like what your doing, they still have an interest is seeing what your doing 'wrong'

People disagree. The world would be bloody boring if we didnt.

Some people have thier own ways of doing things, and ideas of what is wrong or right. There is however, as the saying goes, more than one way to skin a cat.

This forum has a lot of very experianced people, who have done most stuff imaginable. You may have a different way, that works. The main thing is it works for you, and your happy.

:):) , comment not appreciated, why moan no one said looks good ???

he wasnt aiming that at you, only people who have had nothing but 'constructive critism' to say

i feel its always good to push the boundaries, it would be a bit boring if we only did what people told us to do! it may work, but other people may find ways which it works just the same or even better!

there is rarely only ONE way to do something,

and trying new things is human nature!! :D

sorry spiky for opening worms again!
