SPGti had Mark at Jam Motorsport do a mod to his cage, extra diagonal and narness bars and the price wasn't prohibitive and he made a good job too. there's no reason for not adding the bits, so long as it's done properly.

my welder is very good at it, so doing it isn't a problem, but as i'm taking strenght from my cage maybe i should get a better cage all together

Remember Spiky the more cage you add the more weight you will add too. The new rear section sounds good though that would incorporate the harness bar etc.

Not sure where your current rear belt mounts are but can't you do something similar to my Visa which has 2 holes in the floor with some big plates behind (ie underneath) with the eyelets bolted through them. It got a msa log book fine so should be ok (my rear triangle doesnt come back that far now, modified to be inline with the rear struts as per the sprint regs that it was breaking which took 20+ events before a on the ball scruiteneer told me!)

I think you're better of with a harness bar in the cage. You're not really adding weakness by putting the bars in and it would be far safer than what you've done now and what you had before, so long as you'r proficient with your welder. Basically what you've done now (and what is also very common in a lot of 205s, I'm not pointing the finger, you're brave enough to take the abuse) is angled the belts too much (as Tom has said). In extreme cases of heavy impact they could rip through the upper seat harness holes and crush your spine. It's unlikely but it's possible, which is why there are max installation angles spec'd and why it should be avoided.

I understand you're not after an MSA logbook but their standards are only there for safety reasons, take advantage of them.

I ran mine like that (to old seat belt mounts) for 4 years, before installing a mounting bar and finally now a C44 cage

i'm 100% with you, and that i want them away from the floor as soon as possible, but it's what i do,

1 get my mate (as i dont do welding) to weld a new rear section to my omp cage and well all the feet the same time

2 get a new cage (£600 :) )

Where the hell is all that weight hiden? my old car with an mi and full weld in cage weighed 775kg's on colins scales thats fully road legal trim with all the dry sump gubins i had i cant see the engine weighing alot less than your gti6?

i dont want this to sound off, but are they accurate?

800 i could except for your car, or maybe a touch more, as i have the gti6 and is 25kgs heavier, i dont see rhe dry sump weight that much (though i am guessing here)

i'm as supprised as you as to the weight

what else have you done to the car, that i haven't to make it lighter?

1- keeping the front half you have and adding a new rear section would be comparatively cheap, give you the design you want and not add any significant amount of weight as it would not differ vastly from what you currently have, just be better positioned

2- would be slightly lighter as theres no nuts and bolts and associated fitting to consider and could be made from lighter tubing than the omp but not sure you would gain that much over option 1

it makes no real sense but it must be fairly accurate to be the same on two different scales- the only way to get an accurate figure would be to get the car corner weighted

isnt t45 a better lighter spec? ends could be done on the miller, spindle sander or could rig up a tube notcher not too difficult- ailmax is not so local any more

ps how do i set this up to email me of replies to the thread?

That was on colin satchels corner weights so its about as good as it gets.

I recon the dry sump added 10kg's with all the pipes remote oil filter bid oil tank and to catch tanks and 10L of oil

I had no heater matrix half dash light wheels 4pots a half sized fuel tank ect but i wouldnt say a lot less than yours seans who use to post on here was around the same weight as mine but he had an 8v so saved a bit there.

I know sandys 1400 he prepares was in the low 700's when itv was first built :)

If you want the cage tube let me know the length and angles you want notched on it and i can get that sortted for you. You cant mix t45 and cds mind. The corsa tarmac rally car that i spanner for has just had a T45 weld in cage / new shell done for us by ian @ dv8 metalworx the shell weighed 215kg's when we weighed the bare shell with the cage in!

ah fair comment, they should be spot on then :), will have to find a place with some and get it weighed yet again..lol

whats the reason for not mixing t45 and CDS, if it's safety then i will just get CDS

crist low 700's thats awesome.

would it be easier for me to just drive to you, make the tubes up and leave? that way the tubes are right and wont need modding afterwards?

there are still area to loose weight, but money is holding me back, so they will happen over time, as of when funds allow, or parts turn up cheap

cheers dude,

just having a read back through re the lotus calipers, if you wanted to keep the gti6 disca you could always add a spacer behind one of the pads to take up the extra width- this would also help to move the caliper away from the face of the wheel

The two metals react in diffrent ways so you cant mix them and you should realy tig T45 . The T45 does make a massive diffrence if you go for a full cage in it.

Ill check with Ian @ dv8 if hes happy to to it but im sure he can squease it in for you.

if you could find out that would be top, shall i get the tube in advance and then come down with it and he make them fit (but not weld them in place)
