omp cage is easy peasy to fit

Yep, exactly what I found.

 

That said, I had to take one out the other day on my own which was a bit of a struggle as the sleeves that hold front to rear had welded themselves in place but it relented in the end!

this is just before we put it on the trailor and sent it to have the cage and seats welded in :banana:

this first pic was made by andy (the guy fitting the cage) which is identical to what comes with the cage, how fooking cool

 

this is needed due to me wanting an extra diagonal on the rear :DD: :DD:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

and as you can see the sun roof is gone, and a sheet on thin metal will be bolted on to replace it

The harness bar wasn't what i was expecting but still, i think it looks quite good.

I can't help but be bothered by a couple of things in the setup.

 

The rear of the seat bars looks welded onto the handbrake housing - but that itself is only spot welded onto the shell and they have a habit of coming away from the floorpan and in a lot of cases they crack too.

Look like a couple of small welds on the bars to floorpan but have seen the floor crack there too.

 

Could you get a couple of gussets up from the floorpan itself and weld up the join of the handbrake housing to the floor?

 

Other worry is that harness bar location. I know how flimsy the areas the plate is welded to is. On first look I wondered if it was going to be up to it, but there is a fair bit of weld there so I guess it could be ok.

 

Might just be a total over-reaction though and I am no expert.

I was about to post pretty much the same thing as Boombang. Ive done a fair few cages now, and i really dont like the look of the belt bar, one big impact and that is going to shear straight off.

 

Personally i would have either found some way to mount the belt bar on the cage (doesnt look too feasable due to the size/position of the cage), or put a large strengthening place into the rear inner arches and mounted the bar between them.

Ok, chop that seat belt bar out and chuck it away, to be honest it would be far stronger to just use harness eyes in the floor and would look much neater too.

 

The seat rails look ok but i would massively reinforce the inner mounting on the rear one and if it were me i would have mounted passanger seat lower and further back. The rear seat rail takes 80% of the seat load so its worth making sure its right.

 

The welding looks very good and you have dont a nice job of the cage mounts etc.

appreciate the comments, and i'll pass them on to my fabricator,

 

but the rear bar is solid as a rock, so wont be changing that,

 

but sort of agree on the seat mount, which is an easy fix

well here's a little update from today

 

the roof is drying so will take pics of that when it's done,

 

it'll be white hammerite on the underneat and black hammerite on the top

 

dropped my battery cables off, and andy has done such a great job of the crimping

well a small update :top:

 

 

i've bought a 309gti

 

so will use it's rear beam, front wishbones and drive shafts, so should make it handle even better

 

also have a few spare bits like, loom, engine,gearbox

 

not bad eh

I wonder how they compare to Yokohama advan's in terms of the optimum negative camber needed.

 

I assume you can use these in the wet also, just not standing water wet. I have my yoko's fitted all year round.

 

Are you planning to renew/replace any of the front suspension. From the look of the pics the top mounts are rather old.
