How To Shorten A Throttle Cable?

Recommended Posts

s16 Peggy

Hi all,

I have just completed the conversion from my S16 inlet manifold to the GTI-6 one, and I am going to need to make the throttle cable shorter.

Has anyone any good tips for doing this with minimum hassle?

Thanks

Nigel

I had to shorten a 405 cable to fit on my 205 turbo, would suggest a really good pair of cutters

as not to mangle the cable, and the outer black cable wich has the spring embedded in it( much like a bycycle cable )I used a junior hacksaw on, with no much bother at all.

Whats the best way to reattach the nipple for the butterfly though?

When i do mi conversions i just buy a new cable off a 405 from pug, its adjustable to what ever length you want.

what you need is the little barrel with a hole through it and a screw in from the end, best way I can desrribe it! comes on 306 diesel throttle cables, and I know that the bikeshop i used to work in has hundreds of them in the workshop, I could get one for you if thats easier than getting a new cable?

(which IIRC would be a lot easier to shorten the current unit than fit another one, buggers to do!)
