davev 1 Posted February 1, 2007 hi, on the way to work this morning my pug decided to play silly buggars there i am ploding along when i adjust the throttle a bit and nothing happens, just starts dieing, so i dip the clutch and the engine cuts out. i tried jumping it while im still rolling but still nothing. ive gave it a check over and its getting fuel and spark. but after starting it up again i stumbled across the wire to the dizzy is a bit iffy and when moved the engine would cut out. my main question is could this be my problem or another problem waiting to go wrong? when i tried jumping it the rev gauge would work so im confused, as i thought the wire also works the gauge? cheers. dave. p.s. anyone got a good working 1.9 dizzy? Grim.Badger 15 Posted February 1, 2007 No where near an expert on this but afaik that wire is what connects the dizzy to the amp and is probably what causes your car to cut out. I'm just making an eductaed guess though, give it a bit more time and see what people say. Even if it isn't you should try repairing it if it's dodgy. davev 1 Posted February 1, 2007 (edited) i know its definatly a problem and it does cut the car out when moved about an inch to the side but i was wondering if this would give the symptoms of what im experiencing or if its another problem altogether. cheers. jackherer 543 Posted February 1, 2007 that loose wire is almost certainly your problem, its a pretty common failure.

davev 1 Posted February 4, 2007 (edited) little update. i changed the dizzy for a mates good one, and the car is running smother then it has for a long time. only problem is that at 60-70 speeds driving the problem is still there. someone mentioned try oiling the airfilter as i havent for a year and a bit since the carbs(r1s) where put on, reckons abit of moisture might be getting through freezing the needle.tring that first as when it last cut out i managed to park by a lampost and removed the airfilter(which seemed damp at the bottom) and there was quite a bit of moisture around the carbs. ill be posting a wanted ad for a 1.9gti dizzy as my mate will need his back. cheers. dave.
