andymi16 0 Posted February 1, 2007 (edited) Afternoon chaps! I need some help making her road worthy! One of the reasons my 1.6 failed on monday was imbalanced braking. Whats the cure? pugrallye 0 Posted February 1, 2007 (edited) no braking imbalance can refer to either front or rear, or handbrake (thats normally poor effiency though) on discs its normally cured with new discs and pads (if its attrocious suspect a faulty caliper) if its on a drummed rear it will normally indicate poorly adjusted shoes. You may be given the poundage readings for all 4 wheels on your failure sheet, so it will be easy to spot which one is down. normal causes are: friction surfaces, fluid leakage, worn master cylinder or worn brake caliper/ cylinder Edited February 1, 2007 by pugrallye Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

andymi16 0 Posted February 1, 2007 Thanks guys. Disks and pads were new 2 years ago, did 1000 miles then sat for a year and a half so shouldn't be worn. Maybe sitting for so long has ceased things a little? Andrew Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Neosophist 0 Posted February 1, 2007 does it pull to oneside when breaking? this will give you a rough idea where to check. if somethings seized on the discs will get really hot really quickly and you'll prob notice your car pulling towards oneside. If all else fails the discs for surface rust as this burns off when you apply the breaks, if the callipers stuck off it won't burn the rust off. check the break compensator valve isn't rusted through and you have no fluid leaks anywhere which would affect breaking. Failing everything else you may just have air in the breaking system, try bleeding all the calipers / drums as a slightly loose bleed nipple can let air in overtime.
