Rev Counter In A Turbo Diesel Gti

Recommended Posts

Hello as some of you may know i have recently fitted a turbo diesel into my 205 gti and am now struggling on 1 last wee bit.

CANT GET THE DAM REV COUNTER TO WORK!!!!!!

Right, i have copied the wiring from a diesel and got the dash from the diesel and have just fitted my brand new TDC sensor, get in the car start her up and the rev counter seems to be going at half the speed of the engine???

Any ideas??

1:-could the clocks be knackered?

2:- Is the rev counter itself adjustable?

3:- maybe the wrong flywheel, have looked and seems to only one ever fitted to the 205 turbo diesel

4:- would having the sensor to near or far away from the fly wheels cause this?

5:- should a gti dash rev counter work with the diesel rev counter signal?

cheers for your help again people this is driving me nuts now!!!

Ah the delights of a rev counter in a turbo diesel. My STDT rev counter has a mind of it's own which basically means it is a lazy sod that doesn't work most of the time. Sometimes it decides to participate for a few miles then gives up again, probably works for about 10 miles out of every couple of hundred.

Virtually every diesel turbo that I see for sale mentions that the rev counter does not work. I will be interested to see if you are succesful as I would eventually like to have a working rev counter.

Sorry for being no help but you are not the only one with this problem.

I know there is a couple of threads in the forum relating to this problem and one very recnetly since I joined.

Good luck

FIXED IT FINALLY......

odd one this, ended up taking the dash to bits and found that under the little black cover on the rev counter needle there was no little weight, checked with a gti dash and it had one. Fitted the weight and some how the rev counter now works, totally random.....

fitting the new TDC sensor i ran the engine then very slowly moved the TDC sensor in towards the flywheel at one point it gave very random readings then finally it worked about 1-2mm off of the little tabs that your meant to push into contact with the flywheel.

my night mare has ended finally :-)
