pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted January 29, 2007 Short the guage out to see if its the sender or guage thats dead. The sender is under the righthand rear seat base under the smaller of the two plastic covers (if they are still fitted). To test it, remove the plug & bridge across pins on it. The plug is a three pin one, one wire should be green which is the earth. Bridge from the middle pin to that one, switch the ignition on & it should go full scale if its the sender thats dead. The two outer pins should put the low fuel light on. If the guage works all OK then you need to remove the sender & replace it with a new one. Graham. djinuk 2 Posted January 30, 2007 ok , done that all is fine, so its the sender.. how do i remove the sender unit from the fuel tank exactly ?
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted January 31, 2007 Read the haynes manual? Removal 1 Disconnect the battery negative lead. 2 Raise the rear seat cushion. 3 Remove the circular plastic cover to expose the sender unit (see illustrations). 4 Disconnect the electrical lead. 5 Using a suitable tool, unscrew the sender unit mounting plate to release it from the securing tabs. 6 Withdraw the sender unit, taking care not to damage the float as it passes through the hole in the tank. Refitting 7 Refitting is a reversal of removal, but use a new sealing ring if there is any doubt about the condition of the original one. Graham.
