ifcho 0 Posted January 26, 2007 Hello, I'll be preparing a 205 for hillclimb and track use here in Bulgaria and I need a FIA approved cage. However the price for a rollcage (OMP, Sparco) is very high compared to the price for building your own. I can source the materials and tools for building a rollcage, but I need some advice on which is the best model to use. I read all topics about rollcages here, but could not find what I'm looking for. Also if anyone has made DYI cage for his car, I would appreciate any advice, diagrams, schemes, etc. Thank you in advance.
Craigb 2 Posted January 26, 2007 If you need an FIA approved cage , how are you planning on getting it approved after it is built?
bren_1.3 1 Posted January 26, 2007 not quite sure what you mean? the best model to use? are you looking for a basic cage with no door bars or diagonal? or are you looking for a super duper triangulated pretty much space frame chassis jobbie? id just buy whats available. you can get unassembled kits from suppliers that just require the bars profiling and welding together. custom cages or somewhere like that. a forum member can get cheap(er) OMP cages for peugeot 205's. kev-g??? wouldnt be so sure on postage though. brianthemagical 1 Posted January 26, 2007 not sure about this but i think that asliong as the tubing is correct and there is a certain number of components for the discipline then custom made cages are legal. Have a look in the blue book, that should give you all you need. How would people like that company that was in PFC a couple of months back be able to make custom cages that are approved? ifcho 0 Posted January 26, 2007 Yes, as long as you follow FIA's regulations about the tubing and the mounting points the rollcage would be legal (at least here in bulgaria, but I suppose that it should be similar in the UK). Actually I have not chosen a rollcage design yet. I like the ones that connect to the front boots as they also stiffen the suspension alot (as far as I have learnt from this forum). However I need some dimensions or drawings, so I can at least make my own scheme. Sorry for not being clear enough in my first post.
boombang 2 Posted January 26, 2007 I was under the impression that the cage required certification for approval, and to be able to certify costs £££.
