Mandic 0 Posted January 23, 2007 Hi, How thick is usually lexan used for side windows? 3mm? Cheers Ziga
pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted January 23, 2007 i will be using 3mm for mine, same as the glass thickness i believe
boombang 2 Posted January 23, 2007 4mm is the thickness required for motorsport according to the blue book. I'd always go for 4mm simply because of that!
pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted January 23, 2007 ah the old blue book , will that fit in the front window runners though?
boombang 2 Posted January 23, 2007 No idea, but if you are going to be putting the window up and and down with polycarbonate in there it will scratch very badly.
Mandic 0 Posted January 23, 2007 Scratch? It shouldnt scratch. There are several types of lexan available. If You take the one which is used for shop-windows or security glass, I believe everything should be ok. Cheers Ziga
boombang 2 Posted January 23, 2007 I am just trying to offer honest advice and whilst polycarb/lexan is very resistance to shattering and cracking, it does scratch very easily. Yes you can get coated versions but unsure if they will form to the shape for a window and no idea about cost. If you find a supplier and it turns out to be good value and scratch resistant please let me know as I'd be very interested in buying some
Mandic 0 Posted January 23, 2007 Well over here prices for high burable lexan are cca 45 quid for 1 m2 of 3mm thick plate. How easily can it be shaped I dont know, as I havent tried it yet, but will post when I know more. Cheers Ziga

SPGTi 2 Posted January 29, 2007 Have lexan in the rear 1/4s of my Pug and it does scratch quite easily, especially if you brush against branches , hedges etc . Sourced mine from here Steve
