nick 3 Posted January 21, 2007 I Noticed while doing a few small jobs under the bonnet that there was a lot of clearance on the top mount buffers (either side of the drivers side top mount) I've shimmed them up (Just washers cut out, like a horseshoe) to take all the play out and the difference is amazing. The baulky, obstructive, knackered gearbox that I thought I had is now like a knife through butter (even when cold, when second was impossible to find) and a lot of the "kangerooing" has now gone, so much smoother to drive in traffic. Could be a cheap fix (free!) for anyone with a dodgy gearchange. Nick
DrSarty 90 1 Cars Posted January 21, 2007 (edited) Top tip - it's one of things I've always noticed and planned to do something about, but figured 'that's how Peugeot did it, so it must be right' and left it alone. Gonna do it now though and the horse shoe style spacers means you can slip 'em on without taking the mount apart - toight, yish...like a toiga Rich Edited January 21, 2007 by DrSarty
cybernck 402 1 Cars Posted January 21, 2007 it is also possible to add a third (and even fourth, with some more work) buffer to reduce the engine's side movement .
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted January 22, 2007 You can get OE shim's for the buffer's, Odd shaped things so it was a area that even Pug looked at But I either use them or some washer's (I normally do it with the engine out) so no cutting is needed, Just saves time. Rippthrough 98 Posted January 22, 2007 I just used plasticard to make a shim up for mine, with a ramp at the bottom so it can be hammered in.
nick 3 Posted January 22, 2007 (edited) I've put a third buffer on the Mi top mount (8v is still in at the mo') to stop the sideways movement. Works very well. http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?s...94&hl=mount (link to old thread) Nick Edited January 22, 2007 by nick
