Seen as its the negative that you should disconnect when working on the car do they put the easy twist off connecting terminal on the positive feed?

I always take the negative off a car battery. That way if a tool accidently branches the positive terminal (or starter, alternator etc.) to earth, it won't cause a big SPARK!

Surely it makes no difference, after all there is no circuit if the negative is off.

Thats the way they taught us at college, and for the same reason, disconnect first-reconnect last

Thats what they recommend for every job in the Haynes manual;

  • Changing a tyre;
  • 1. Remove battery negative lead.
  • 2. Loosen wheel nuts/ bolts slighty
  • 3. etc...

Even changing a fuse I bet. :)

Graham.
