brianthemagical 1 Posted January 18, 2007 the third lp in 3 weeks is in the car at the mo. the car then cut out and would not start on the way to the mot. the aa did a diagnostics cheak and it came up with p0230 and p0403. then the car started again. the car was taken to the mot station who said they think i5t would have to be taken to pug garage to get the fault codes analysed. i have a look on the net and found that the fuel pump primary circuit and the egr control circuit are at fault but i can't find anything more and won't be able to look at the car till sunday. if anyone has a fault code book thingy 9i think they exist) i would be grateful if you could have a quick look and any help or advice would be grateful. thanks in advance. sonofsam 5 Posted January 18, 2007 Dont know if you have seen this already http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?cont...oen_fault_codes It may be listed in there, sorry if its not. EGR is exhaust gas recirculation i think. I would take it to peugeot though, after seeing your other post
Richie-Van-GTi 71 2 Cars Posted January 18, 2007 unplug the egr and see how the car runs after that, they normally run better without anyway and they are known to be troublesome and they have an effect on the fuel pump circuit as well if I remember the schematics correctly. brianthemagical 1 Posted January 18, 2007 (edited) thanks, that did help. it appers that as far as the diagnostics go that is as much info as will get. i'll just have to wait untill sunday. thanks again. as i was writing this reply the adove reply appeard so i didn't answer it but hear goes. the fuel pump is'nt conected to the egr according to the haynes diagrams. i'll have a cheack and see what i can find on sunday. i'm woried that i won't find anything though as i don't have a diagnostics tool (yet) and the only symtom has been a broken fuel pump. i'll just have to wait and see. thanks for the help. Owain1602 0 Posted January 21, 2007 You'd idealy need to know if the same fault codes come back to know if they're relevant or not. I believe the fuel pump and EGR get their supply from the main relay, fuel pump goes through a 30A and EGR through 15A i think, the EGR circuit also feeds 3 other components such as boost controller, ELAB and something else i cant remember. So you need to find really if you're getting power to the fuel pump.
brianthemagical 1 Posted January 21, 2007 it kind of dawned on me that the only way i'm going to know if it is fixed is if i do diagnostics on it (which i can't) or if the fuel pump doesn't break. there is power to the fuel pump, the car has run. it's 10/15 amp on the fuel pump. i found the relay and it seems to be working ok. looks like this is out of my league. thanks for all the help. ablister 31 Posted January 21, 2007 if you pm me your chassis number, i can get a wiring diagram from infotec for you to check the circuit. I'll also check those fault codes and let you know
brianthemagical 1 Posted January 21, 2007 thanks for the offer but i think i'm as far as i can go with this problem. i was directed to a website about the fault codes and they just say it is the fuel pimp primary circuit, which appers to be working fine. i have the haynes wiring diagram and i've cheacked that but it all looks ok. it pains me to admit it but i think i will have to take it to a garage. thanks again. 16v205 9 Posted January 21, 2007 Hi If the 406 hdi is anything like my picasso hdi then check the lift pump in the fuel tank. If you cant get to the pump then goto the fuel filter in the engine bay, undo the bottom of the filter cylinder to let the water out the diesel but let it drain completly. Crank the engine over to see if you get any more fuel pushed through, if not take the filter out just to be sure as the fuel isnt coming out the tank.
