Water Pipe Question...

Recommended Posts

ultimatepug

recently ive replaced both heater matrix hoses due to them both splitting. tonight the hose from the header tank to the back f the block (believed to be part no. 1350 96) has split too.

now i know the pipes arent very good quality and after heate and dirt/oil getting on damges them, but could there be something else more drastic i.e cracked head or gasket?

once ive replaced this pipe i shall be checking the pressure, run it upto temp, then keep the revs on and see if the water pours out f the header tank.

what do you guys reckon?

By strengthening one part of the system you could just be weakening another part of it. Change the damaged hose and cross your fingers. If you're not loosing water or having heating issues you should be ok. Keep your eye on the fluid level and the expansion overflow.

If you've blown several hoses in close succession then I'd certainly check if the cooling system is getting pressurised and putting alot of stress on the aging pipes. Certainly three pipes failing I would say is unusual even if they are all the same age, but not beyond the rhelms of impossibility.

My car started blowing hoses, compression tests several times were fine. Eventually head gasket blew in a major way. Possible reason compression test didn't reveal problem was because head was found to be cracked in 2 places, presumably the crak only opened up under particular working conditions, which of course being my CTi, weren't occurring when I did the compression tests. Keep an eye on your water level, if you see this is slowly going down, and condensation in the expansion tank relief valve pipe, it will be because your system is being over pressurised (or the filler cap spring has weakened!).

I blew one hose on a dual carriageway, didnt notice until the car was popping then lost all power (head gasket fried). Looking at the state of the hose the decision was made for me, replace all of them with new hoses. £80 on hoses once is better than 80 on head gasket set, skim, oil and new coolant every time another hose blows.

new pipes on all ran up to pressure, the return pipe that goes from the water pump to the header tank isnt getting hot though? water pump knackered?

the alternater belts seen better days, it is loose, (can freely move the blades on the alternater) so im guessing water pump and new belt. am i right?

also where is cheapest for silicone hose kit?

found the cause. head gaskets gone....

more emissions coming from the header tank than the exhaust, gutted....
