Brakes.........

My friend has a set of big calipers on spare 1.9 suspension struts (i.e 1.9 hubs discs springs etc)

To fit these calipers onto my 1.6 might i be as well advised to just swop the 2 1.9 arms onto my 1.6?

Or willl the calipers (after-market ones) bolt straight onto my 1.6?

Cheers

You will have to change your hub's, which means you will have to change your drive shafts as well to 1.9 spec.

won't the 1.9 struts (with springs hubs calipers etc) bolt straight in?

The hubs have different splines for the driveshafts Dale, but the 1.9 calipers will bolt straight on the 1.6 existing hubs, use the 1.9 bolts too though. :)

Only if you use 1.6 discs which i dont think will work with you setup as u mentioned larger discs/calipers etc

But you can just swap the 1.9 calipers for the 1.6 ones and nothing else :P

whats the advantage of swaping from 1.6 bendix to 1.9 girling??

The Bendix ones are s*ite. And they have an annoying habit of clonking when you apply them whilst reversing.

they also bend the sliders IIRC

They wear the sliders and then move about when cornering, means the brake pedal travel increases after some heavy cornering, which ain't nice.

ahhh, yeah i remember a couple of days ago i was reversing, and my brakes were like cloncking, really annoying as it sounds worse than it is

as for the brake setup using my 1.6 hubs u see, (wider track), but i think if i bought claiper brackets, i could put gti6 discs on, using 1.9 calipers on my 1.6 hubs!!!! sweet!!

No, because it's the discs that are the problem. When you retain the 1.6 hubs you are seriously limited to what discs you can use, due to the different offset. I don;t think GTi6 discs would fit.

so 1.9 hubs/struts deffo won't fit straight onto my 1.6 because of the driveshafts?

No they will fit BUT you will have to change the driveshafts to 1.9 items aswell.
