Rear Wiper Not Parking

Recommended Posts

GLPoomobile

My rear wiper does not return to the parked position when you stop it. It just stops wherever it is when you twist stalk back.

What control's this? Is it the relay in the tailgate, near the motor?

I was having a discussion with my housemate about how we reckoned the parking system worked just this morning. I think it might be the relay. How many pins has yours? It should have 5. I believe this means it is a SPCO (Single Pole Change Over) relay. I need a new one for my 106, are these easy to get hold of? I had a look at the Maplin website and came up with this

Would this be suitable? The one I took out is a 25A one.

It is controlled by the relay, I had a wire come off & mine did the same as yours, reconnecting the wire fixed it.

If it does happen to be a duff relay, I might replace it with a timed relay (intermittant).

Anyone know where I can get one with a variable intermittant setting (I seem to recall somene mentioned these the other day)?

There is also a Bosch one you can get that you can set the frequency of the wipe. Kyri (Saveloy) wrote an article on fitting one of these into the front wiper system of a 205, many moons ago in Torque.

So is it definately the relay that controls the parking?

I swapped mine over to another relay that I'm sure was a new unsed one (bought years ago), but it's still not parking.

Parking of wipers is controlled by the wiper motor itself not the relay

Bingo!

I'll swap back to the old motor then. I could have just done that in the first place but I'm lazy!

I swapped to a known good wiper and that didn't cure it. Not much help I know, but I can't remember if I ever sorted this (it was my old car). It's got to be a relay or wiring fault though, if anyone else has this problem.

Holy thread revival!

My experience;

I bought a second hand motor and a new relay off fleabay.

Although my motor looked to be in better condition than the one I was due to replace it with, there was a rusty stain coming out of the motor body. I had not seen this before removing the motor.

'New' motor is quicker and now parks, I was expecting to have to change the relay too.
