Mi16 Ballast Resistor

Recommended Posts

For those who don't know, the Mi16 engine I fitted into my 309 has been misfiring above 3000rpm ever since I fitted it. It was fine in the 405. The only item I've not replaced is the ECU loom. Everything else has been replaced with new or good secondhand items.

It was suggested to me last night that it 'might' be the ballast resistor causing the misfire. I'm not too sure myself. What do you lot reckon? I assume the resistor is within the ECU loom and therefore the same one that was in the 405 when it was running fine.

Bizzarely, last week it momentarily stopped misfiring and it was pulling really well. I was led to believe this was going to be an electrical problem due to the fact the rev counter is 'twitching'. However, it was still twitching when the misfire had cured itself. This is making me think it may be an air leak - as has previously been suggested. What air leak could cause this - inlet manifold? Exhaust manifold?

The misfire came back with a vengance, it's worse than ever now :(

What type of Ignition amp are you using? I;ve found that only Bosch ones work 100%

I don't think I've got a Bosch one on at the moment, but I've got one spare. Will give it a go - nothing to lose at this point!

Cheers!
