yeah got all the bit's, regs, facet pump, braided hose, itg filter, and all rest of bits, so may just carry on but still cant decide 100%

Anyone running a 1.9 on twin 40's ? what are you getting mpg. IIRC fromn years back the 1.9gti end up about 22mpg... ? Can someone confirm this ?

Horrendous mpg on mine, but as yours will be, it's only used at weekends, MPG is in the high teens, noise is amazing, though after reading this thread i'm now tempted to strip the bloody thing down and undertake a rebuild. Perhaps next year though as summer is allegedly on the way and i will be out and about in the highlands :)

Just a pic of my carb set up.

ps might need to contact you about your degreaser, are you selling it in amounts suitable for the home mechanic??

Yes the Mpg situation does now have me a little worried as i want to use it now as an everyday... hmm not good at that mpg..... I had a Mk2 golf some 8 years back running a 2.0 scirocco engine on twin 45's and for some reason it was resonably economical and it went like a rocket.

But this time with fuel prices as they are im still not sure weather to go back to the injection or the carbs, especially as i want to run it more often ..... arghhh I probably sound worse than the wife trying to decide what to wear to go out in i know, but have to take it into account....

It is a satisfying job after you finish rebuild an engine, if you have the time then go for it, you wont regret it. If you need any advise gie us a shout.. no probs with the cleaner either, pm me and i can sort that for you...

Summer.... did you say summer.... oh great, ill look out for that :-) ;-) .... got to finish car before this summer and loads to do, but it will be done all being well :-)

I suspect part of the mpg issue is how well the car is set up, thats probably one of the biggest problems nowadays.

Grand thanks for the offer, i'll keep you in mind as i will need things like torque settings etc for rebuilding, as i haven't a clue where to start looking.

Go for the carbs you know you want too, if you wanted to be sensible you wouldn't have bought another pug, so you may as well go the whole nine yards.

Hi All,

back again for another update. I have been busy, honestley..... between baby and weather i have now got some more done.

I have had a massive change of heart and have decided not to put the carbs on or many of the performance bit's but return it more to standard apart from brakes and suspension and the changes already done....ERMMM ..............I think.......... that of course may change yet so keep watching. I know before anyone mentions, im worse than a woman choosing clothes.... ;-)

Anyway have been on with plating some items and such..

started taking some bits back off my engine to re plate,

Before

stripped

Plated and passivated

As mentioned in previous postings i needed to change the front panel due to a small amount of o/s front corner damage which someone had attempted to repair.... without success. It's nothing major really, just i want it to be perfect and not worth trying straighten.

Ok i forgot just how hard these dam wings were to remove.... I hate them with a passion but got the wing off eventually.

Next i drilled out the spotwelds from the old front panel and also the welds from the new panel to seperate the bits i needed. Finally then migged it back for now.

Old twisted mangled corner

New Front panel

After this i have ripped out all the rest under the bonnet and cleaned engine bay, also dash is now off, suspension and suframe off + rebuilt and restored brake servo...

Removed the crappy 80's immobiliser, rewiring will be fun :-( everywire is black..... no scheme's

Will upload some more photos over the next few days....

Forgot to mention, my other half came up to see how progress was going on the car as she has not seen it for months..... She replied "Have you just bought this one from the scrappers, where's your gone." ....... he he. I guess when someone says that you know your past the point of no return... lol :-)

Finished servo now. Stripped it right back to bare metal then plated it, after removing all the rust, then painted it as i prefererd the finish, putting it back together was a little fiddley but got there in the end :-)
