gangsterous 0 Posted January 8, 2007 In the summer time (must happen in winter as well) i have noticed that petrol fumes come out of the petrol cap when its closed and locked. You can definetly smell the fumes, wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem? Is it a simple cap change, even though it's new or is it something different? jackherer 543 Posted January 8, 2007 mines the same, and it actually leaked some fuel when I last took it on track. I assume it just needs a new cap, I can push it in a few MM so I guess the spring has worn out.
gangsterous 0 Posted January 8, 2007 That's crazy though, mine is a new cap, is there any way the pipe going to the tank is faulty?
Adnic69 0 Posted January 8, 2007 It's more likely that the seal around pump or sender has gone. Spent ages trying to solve mine, replacing pipes and then lifted the seat up and noticed the smell was worse. Changed the seal and all is well.
gangsterous 0 Posted January 8, 2007 Okay i'll make sure i'll have a look and a smell under the seat, but that still doesn't explain the fumes coming out of the petrol cap, in summer you can see it clear as day from the drivers seat. Sometimes even when i stop the engine theres an airy sound or something coming out. Needs to get sorted, I don't like playing around with petrl fumes
Adnic69 0 Posted January 8, 2007 In that case then its not the cap. Its where the pipe joins the filler.Perished or loose jubilee
aeinstein 0 Posted January 8, 2007 when i reverse in my 1.6 with drivers window down, it stinks of petrol. if i look in the wing mirror i can see the haze. never lost any petrol though, cos its slower with more than £10 of fuel in! i don't let it worry me. al
