jim21070 2 Posted January 7, 2007 Just a quickie... Does a standard 1.6 GTi have a rev limiter that cuts in at about 6200rpm?
jackherer 543 Posted January 7, 2007 its nearer 6750/6800 IIRC the 1.9 is nearer 6200 though.
futura 3 Posted January 7, 2007 (edited) I think it's 6250rpm for the 1.6 115bhp EDIT: yeah not quite sure trying to dig that out the pug documentation. Edited January 7, 2007 by futura
welshpug 1,657 Posted January 7, 2007 (edited) 6600 on a 1.6 cant find the data in the haynes manual for the 1.9, but when my 1.9 hit the rollers it pulled peak power at 6165 rpm, and max revs was 6785 rpm. Edited January 7, 2007 by welshpug
futura 3 Posted January 7, 2007 (edited) I found that early 1.6 GTI's had their rev limiter at 6600rpm and from serial # 5 561 590 the rev limiter was raised to 6900rpm's. So you must have a 1.9 ECU in your 1.6 Edited January 7, 2007 by futura
jim21070 2 Posted January 7, 2007 Thanks all, I clearly have a problem then because mine absolutely files to 6200 rpm most cleanly and then coughs, splutters and hits a wall just like a limiter is cutting in. I assume the limiter works by cutting fuel? In all other respects it is running like the proverbial clock.. I very, very rarely do this but today I have been playing AFMs and timing and was testing. One thing I did was retard the ignition timing a little. Must go and play again.
futura 3 Posted January 7, 2007 What's your ECU ref number?
jim21070 2 Posted January 7, 2007 What's your ECU ref number? ECU: 0280 000 340 AFM: 0280 202
welshpug 1,657 Posted January 7, 2007 i would be highly highly amused if that was the case, But I doubt it very much, what's the correct part number for the 1.9 ecu? oh, heres the printout -
welshpug 1,657 Posted January 7, 2007 just checked, I have the original unmodified ECU for a 1.9 in there
jackherer 543 Posted January 7, 2007 ECU: 0280 000 340 AFM: 0280 202 056 they're both correct for a 1.6.
futura 3 Posted January 7, 2007 (edited) ECU: 0280 000 340 That's a 1.6 ECU. EDIT: we keep posting at the same time Edited January 7, 2007 by futura
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted January 7, 2007 With the rolling road thou, did they use the magnectic clip around the spark plug lead or just the rev counter? The 205 Rev Counters are not that great so vary allot
welshpug 1,657 Posted January 7, 2007 hmm, I think they did the "hold it at 3k and set the machine" jobbie. i've yet to see other graphs for the same day so i'm not sure how far out it'll be.
Richie-Van-GTi 72 2 Cars Posted January 7, 2007 sheet, does that graph really say wheel power is 78bhp and corrected engine power is 120? Thats a ferking huge hike for transmission loss is it not?
welshpug 1,657 Posted January 7, 2007 yeah, my box is knackered and probably low on oil
jim21070 2 Posted January 7, 2007 The 205 Rev Counters are not that great so vary allot Ahh! I wonder if that is the root of many problems I am having trying to achieve a stable and steady 900rpm idle. If the sodding thing is slow then idle will be very slow and the rev limiter will appear to cut in early. Maybe by accident I have a nearly good 500rpm idle Thanks Miles, food for thought. I'll dig out my old Gunson that I've not used since my days of MG Metros and check the calibration of mine
