Is it possible to put gti6 rear brakes on the 205 without mods?

no point, they are the same (even the part numbers are the same), unless you're running drums that is.

607 and citreon C5s + some of the estates have bigger rear discs if that's what you're after.

406's should have larger rear brakes too, about 290 mm,

but the calipers are totally different (hub-braked hanbrake).

Does the 205 gain from having more powerfull rear brakes?

Wonder if it's worth it.

I wouldn't have said so, not until your running high powered cars with very stiff springing anyway. ONly thing I'd look at would be a lighterweight option.

Such as? Drilled discs are probably the only things with considerable weight loss.

sorry guys, i still cannot figure out why a ff car like 205 need rear brake upgrade.

when you brake (especially heavy brake), weight transfer to front, the rear end becomes lighter and start to raise a bit which means less grip. will a stronger rear brake ends up locking the rear earlier?

will a stronger front brake (4 pots perhaps) transfer the weight to the front even faster during heavy brake?

me neither mr Killer!

Indeed they would throw the weight forwards quicker, which is why a Drum braked rear end is sufficient in most cases (and sometimes more beneficial due to a better handbrake)

With 4 pots on the front it is easy to lock the front up while the rear basically never does any work so it is a good idea to uprate the rears aswell to even out the brake balance again, the simply way to do this is to use a adjustable bias valve hope this helps.

Thanks Craig

Alloy bells and wave type discs.

Okay, so the last thing is disc and caliper size, are they bigger on the 306 compared to the 205?

so, a stronger rear end means having 4 wheels locked up when heavy braking.

just checked the AP Racing catalogue, the adjustable bias valve (brake proportioning valve not pedal box with balance bar) ONLY limit the hydralic pressure to the rear, NOT incease it.

having the front lock up frequenty, will a better set of tyre and alter the way of driving are more realistic? my road going 205 have 4 pot front, stock rear and a TAS pedal box. i only find i have to dial more to the front when pads and tyres get hotter. when front gets lock up too early, only dial a bit more to the rear. before i have the pedal box installed, i only found the stock rear lock earlier than front (4 pot), especially in the wet.

anyway, we may have different preference on car's behaviour, i prefer it locks the front earlier than rear. at least i can handle it this way. :)

the stub pins on the 306 are longer and have a spacer behind the hub so weather the mounting brackets for the calipers are different i don't know, also the left hand side bracket needs to be ground a little bit to fit onto the trailing arm

brackets are identical, part numbers the lot (bar ABS cars)

oh, left and right brackets are the same too i think.

It seems like i will leave them then.

I think i'll just make sure they're new calipers and braided hoses, as rippthrough suggested go for the lightest setup possible drilled discs and any other material that reduces brake component weight.

Thanks for your input!

What about vented rear discs?

I'd like as little fade as possible on my gravel rally car and I'm upgrading to GTi6 fronts - are there any rears that have vented discs?

Or is it all in the pads....

rear brakes dont get hot enough to warrant it.

if you really want to you can IIRC use a 1.6 gti pad holder.

Very clean beam! What calipers are they?

I get my discs red hot, that's why I'm asking re vented...

Could you use 1.9 discs on the rear with that setup?
