Gti 6 Rear Brakes On The 205

Recommended Posts

Grim.Badger
just checked the AP Racing catalogue, the adjustable bias valve (brake proportioning valve not pedal box with balance bar) ONLY limit the hydralic pressure to the rear, NOT incease it.

Yes but you should initially have increased the rear braking quite substantially by removing the compensators as the bias valve replaces them. Then you have rear brakes that are much stronger than the originals and will lock up a long time before the fronts and you can dial down the power to something more suitable with the valve.

I once ran a 205 1.8 diesel with standard front brakes and 1.9 rear brakes and the braking seemed much better balanced than the 1.9Gti so replacing the compensators with an adjustable valve seems like a good idea to me.

Could you use 1.9 discs on the rear with that setup?

No. Diameter too small.

Do you need the adaptors that Kristian has in his other thread?

This is a better pic of the brakes assembled.

http://projects.205gtidrivers.com/b1ack_mi16-brakes/CIMG0960

BX front pads, 1.9 rear calipers, 1.6 front pad-brackets etc.

I'm not convinced this brake upgrade will benefit anything at all, apart from adding some weight?

At the moment I'm concidering replacing them for normal brakes just to get the weight down a little.

Think the standard discs with uprated pads really should do the trick.

I just made these vented rears because I wanted to have something different to show off with :)

I'll not be selling these brackets as I can't know whether they're up to the job over a long period of time, or whether they'll break and your brakes will fall off!

I suggest you just get some made up yourself, not like it's that hard to make a bracket to space the caliper (266 - 247)/2mm = 9.5mm radially outwards from the centre of the hub.

Thickness on mine are 10mm but maybe 15mm is safer. Can't remember which of 10 or 15mm thickness that'll give the best slider operation.
