Guest Higs Posted January 5, 2007 Have been offered a set of older 1.6 alloys as a second set for my H plate 1.9. I am looking to use them as a spare set whilst i refurb my 1.9's. The question is: do they fit and drive okay in anyones experience? I know it seems a daft question but i havent changed my wheel sizes before.
johnrobertgordon 0 Posted January 5, 2007 They wont fit, the front calipers will catch the inside of the wheel.

How typically French.....
t16ryan 1 Posted January 5, 2007 IIRC its only the SMRs that wont fit on the rear but the speedliines clear fine and drives fine with them on
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted January 5, 2007 I know that the rear makes no differance as I;ve had both SMR and Speedline on the back of my CTi and the caliper is miles away from the rim, Not sure on the front thou but I've had a 1.6 wheel to move a car and didn;t have any problems
j_turnell 137 3 Cars Posted January 5, 2007 This has been covered lots before so a search would have been an idea. Speedlines fit just fine front and back, smrs fit on the back but sometimes the caliper yoke needs to be ground very slightly on the front to allow clearance. Grim.Badger 15 Posted January 5, 2007 Weights on the insides of the wheels will catch though, even on the rear. You can get 13" steelies over the rears, they scrape but the wheel can turn, I drove a couple of miles like that without damaging the calipers
Guest Higs Posted January 5, 2007 Thanks for the advice. They are speedlines so i will get them. BTW I did a search but couldnt find what i was after! Cheers guys.
steve@cornwall 100 Posted January 5, 2007 Weights on the insides of the wheels will catch though, even on the rear. If your tyre centre is sticking weights on, rather than using the proper pug-only rim weights, go elsewhere-what else are they skimping on? Same goes for any fitter who can't balance 1.6 wheels "cos of the lack of centre hole!
Guest edcotic Posted January 16, 2007 are 1.9 front discs and callipers bigger then the 1.6 then? it could explain why i've only got 8 months out of my MI16'd 1.6 would be good to know for sure, thanks Ed
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted January 17, 2007 are 1.9 front discs and callipers bigger then the 1.6 then? The discs are the same size (247mm) calipers are different along with the disc & wheel offset is different for 1.9 calipers which is why they can catch on the 1.6 GTi alloys. Graham.
