Slow Wipers

Recommended Posts

Why do my windscreen wipers go slow, they do indeed move, and speed up with the higher setings, but on the fastest settings, they appear very slow.

Any thoughts before I go mucking about with motors and stuff?

It could be a sign of a dodgy alternator giving out only just enough juice to make everything run. Check what its giving out with a volt meter mate.

Does it happen with all electrics off (lights, heater fan etc)?

when i had this problem i took the wiper motor apart and found it full of water, it was very rusty inside. I cleaned it all up but to be honest it was shagged so i got a new one.

I have slow wipers too -_-

Have got some spindles from the breakers and refurbed them, basically stripped them, cleaned all the brown dirt out of the spindle and reapplied some nice grease, waiting to refit with another motor I have, should sort it :)

Forgot to add: spline wear on the spindle is probably making them slip in the arm!

I've just replaced the linkages and spindles on mine and cured this same problem

Nice, mine are slow also.

I spot another thread trend.....ie all our motors are starting to wear out!

Mine are also slow, and my starter is shafted :(

Has anyone tried retro fitting some more modern wipers? I fancy some better wipers, and maybe a rain sensor as well B)

All we need is someone to fit a brand new motor to tell us if there is any difference in speed.

After driving the CC a bit more recently I've got a use to the faster wiper.

I want to know if I can retro fit some wipers with intermittant, annoying have on normal, on fast or off when its just a bit drizzly outside.

I'll second that!!! My local dealership want 80 odd quid for a new motor/linkage setup for anyone interested.

So do I  You sure someone hasn't changed the stick/relay (whatever dictates the speed) for a base model?

I've got two rain sensors.

They're attached to my face and called eyes. They sense that it's raining when water lands on the screen and visibility is reduced, then inform my central control unit that it's time to activate the windscreen wipers

:D

But then you need wiper stalks that work all the time, mine don't :(

what makes you think your rains sensors will work all the time then simon? :(

You can even have intermittant with variable delay if you want, just have to swap the relay, costs about ~£30. Way it works is a bit odd but once used to it its rather nice.

Rob

P.S. I suspect slow wipers will be caused by a general lack of maintenance. E.g. lack of grease, rust etc. Doubt there is a magic bullet but certainly a common problem.

Because i'll be wiring them in and not Peugeot :D

I have a plan to try and subtley improve all the bits on my 205 to more modern equivalents now its not a dedicated track car. I have the HID kit going on for the lights, and fancied some other trick bits including new modern wipers with (possibly) newer stalks, rain sensing etc. :D

The Beemer has such good wipers that it almost feels dangerous when i'm out in the Pug and it rains :P

Find a higher spec 306 ( as i know these have not sure about lower spec models) and nick all the wipers and rain sensing bits out of them............. ;) .........

Super Josh

I have the Hella aftermarket rain sensing kit, and they're great ;) Stick the sensor on the inside of the screen, run the cable along the headlining and down the A pillar to the fusebox and then just replace the intermittent wiper relay. Job done. When you switch to intermittent they become rain sensing, they are constantly learning too.
