Spark Plug Shrouding And Burn Rate

Recommended Posts

benlilly

Hi,

I have been measuring my combustion chamber volumes today and when I put the spark plug in the first chamber I noticed that it was fairly deeply recessed and I thought that this may impeed the flame travel from the plug across the combustion chamber.

Obviously the flame does not only travel horizontally, but this is the greatest distance and surely the burn must be as fast as possible.

This is probably a detail that only makes a very small differece but I would be very interested to hear ideas/experience.

Petert, you may have had some first hand experience with this.

Thanks,

Ben

Flame front is a bit of a misnomer really as the mixture will (or should) be tumbling in the chamber.

Cant see your pics for some reason though, so can't really comment further.
