Lillpete 0 Posted January 3, 2007 We are going to look at this car this afternoon so I just thought I'd check out when it would be due/should have been done as a bargaining tool?? Also is there anthing particularly we should be looking out for??
Anthony 1,003 Posted January 3, 2007 I think the cambelt interval is something like every 60-72k miles or so, but tbh on any new car I'd change it as a matter of course unless you've proof that it's been done recently. Main problems on 306's all seem to be related to the heating - the aircon is a rubbish design and one of the pipes fails prematurely and leaks out all the aircon gas (you're talking £200-300 for the pipe and regas) and the heater matrix seem to fail rather too easily (and it's a complete dash out job to change) so check that the heating works and doesn't smell musty and that the carpets aren't damp. Rain sensitive wipers are worth checking if fitted as these do fail and are expensive to fix Otherwise I can't think of anything too major on the late 306's to look out for - mechanically they're pretty sound and a well maintained X reg shouldn't really have any issues at all. ablister 31 Posted January 3, 2007 pretty sure it's 72,00 when it's due a belt. Also make sure the rollers and tensioner are done as they normally fail before the belt. 306's are bad for rear suspension bushes knocking and front door looms breaking causing problems with alarms, central locking etc
Anthony 1,003 Posted January 3, 2007 306's are bad for rear suspension bushes knocking and front door looms breaking causing problems with alarms, central locking etc Thought they sorted the door looms issue out on the P2 and P3 306's - certainly I know it was a major problem on the P1's, but never really heard of it on the later cars? ablister 31 Posted January 3, 2007 i've seen them being done on a few p2 cars for jumping central locking. Probably more common on the p1 cars as they are getting older and the wires will be closer to breaking
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted January 3, 2007 From Autodata; Replacement interval guide; Peugeot recommend: Replacement every 80,000 under normal conditions Replacement everuy 40,000 under adverse conditions. Like Anthony says though, I swap it as a matter of course when I buy a car. Graham.
Lillpete 0 Posted January 6, 2007 Yeah I always change it to be on the safe side when I buy a car. Thanks for the help, He bought the 306 and first impressions are pretty good, it's no rocket ship obviously but it runs well and drives perfectly
