Rob Thomson 6 Posted December 28, 2006 The dampers on my 1.6 feel fairly knackered. When I've got a spare day I'll take it apart and replace anything that needs replacing. The question is, what dampers to use? On my old 309 I always used genuine Pug dampers and thought they were perfect for road use. For the 205 that's about £280 for front and rear - quite tempting. But are there any sensible upgrades - basically better quality after-market dampers that won't affect the ride quality or the natural balance of the car? The Bilstein Sprintline kits seems the obvious choice, but does it knacker the ride quality? My 205's essentially a spare car that has an occassional thrashing down the local lanes. It's going to remain vaguely standard for the forseeable future, and that includes the ride-height. Thoughts please?! Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Wurzel 16 Posted December 28, 2006 Having used the Sprintlines on my car, I was very impressed with them over the standard kit. The ride, even using the supplied springs, was excellent. Firm but very well damped, almost 'big car' feel. If you want close to standard ride height, and good ride, I'd recommend them. I'd certainly buy some for a car of mine if I were keeping it standard. Guest amg301 Posted December 28, 2006 You can get standard replacement front shocks made by bilstein from ECP. For a cheap upgrade they preformed really well and they are cheap. Ahl 4 Posted December 29, 2006 I've got Wurzels old sprintlines on my car. They are good, very good. Noticably firmer but very composed most of the time. I do find I can upset them on a couple of *really* bumpy back roads, but even then the car skips off the ground in a composed fashion. Unless you live down a farm road or something then I'd definitely recommend them, especially if you'd pay £280 for OE stuff anyway. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
