Frekin Speedo Cable

Recommended Posts

Welll thought i fitted my speedo cable correctly last week, now its stopped working again, all i can think is that the square cable comes loose in the diff end,

is something suppose to keep the cabel locked together with the cog?

Yes, there should be a little rubber plug that goes into the side of the speedo drive and holds the cable in.

Thats right, that should be all it needs.

If its still in, I'd check the speedo side again and also the cable routing. It doesn't take much of a bend in the cable to stop the speedo working.

Yes, and the speedo cable goes in quite abit?

You will know, that if thats in, with the speedo cable in it should work??????

Are you sure it has not come unclipped on the dash?

Until the two rubber o rings on the speedo cable cant be seen, and you can pull the rubber stop through easily enough, I think its about 1cm yes.

thats what its like now, but surely theres nothing stopping the square cable working free from the speedo cog?

well you know you have the metal casing around the speedo cable with the 2 o rings in,

its easy to slide the cable thru that,

do you get me? lol

sometimes the cable dosent seat properly in the housing but if you have the black plug pulled through then it cant be that. Are you sure you have it in the back of the dials properly as we all know how awkward that end is?

When I do mine I tend to put the gearbox end in first.

Is the 11mm bolt that holds the drive to the g'box present and tightened?

Lift the clocks off and try twisting the end of the cable, if its located at gearbox end it wont turn, well unless your superman and have the power to twist a gearbox with your finger tips. If its not located twisting and pushing at the same time will locate it, then just make sure you get it back on the clocks right.

OT a bit... should a new cable be noisy? I put one in a couple of days ago and it sounds awful...

i've had this problem for over a month,

when i bought the car, i decided to remove the clocks to see if it was clipped in properly in the back, and it was....

i then removed the cable from the gearbox, by pulling the rubber stopper out, pulling the cable out, and then spinning the end, which in turn, moved the speedo,

but when i put it back into the cog in the gearbox, it wouldn't work...

so 2day, i removed the 11m nut and pulled the whole casing out of the box, made sure the cable was in the cog, turned to cog and in turn moved the speedo, but when i put the cog and cover back, then tightened the 11mm, the speedo still doesnt work!!

so whats my flippin problem? do i need to get new speedo drive cog for the box or sumin? or is the cable end pulling out when im putting it back in?
