Guest silver 1600 Posted December 16, 2006 Hi all i am giving my car a 1988 1.6 GTI a winter service today but the problem i have are the sparkplugs that i took out are different to the ones i have been supplyed by my local parts supplyer. The ones that i took out the engine are NGK BCP6ES and the ones i have been supplyed are NGK BP6EFS which of these is correct if any? This is the first service i have done on the car myself since i got i a few months ago It was serviced every year by garages for the origonal owner. Any help would be great cheers Neil
jackherer 543 Posted December 16, 2006 I believe BP6EFS is the correct plug for an early 1.6 (pre '87 105bhp XU5J) and BCP6ES is the correct plug for post '87 1.6s and 1.9s (XU5JA and XU9JA) So it looks like you've been supplied early plugs for your late car. pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted December 17, 2006 I think the only difference between the two is that the earlier plugs were a taper seat fitment & the later ones have the sealing washer. Other than that the plugs are the same specification afaik but my 1988 1.6 GTi uses the later ones with the sealing washer which I'm pretty certain your car should have. Graham.
