Guest ashnicholls Posted December 13, 2006 I have been told I have got a twisted spindle. Because I did not put my pedal completely to the floor when setting up full throttle. Meaning that I pulled the throttle past the stop on the carbs. Anyway, rolling road tuner, Mick at Hi-Tech Motorsport in Cradley Heath, had a big play with it because I took it over because it would not idle. Would hunt, between stalling and 1k rpm. And should not hunt on a 270 cam. Upon retuning it all, still no luck, and all he could find was saying that the carbs had twisted spindles. So I have just taken the carbs off. And can hardly see any visible twisting. Ie the butterflies all look to be seating ok. If you hold the carbs up to the light, only 1 out of the 4 has a perfect seal, no light passes. The other 3 have slight bits of light at different parts around the butterfly. But not enough that you would think would make a difference. So on to my questions. Do the carbs have to seat perfectly, no gaps at all, or can you get away with slight gaps? Are the carbs fine and should I be looking for faults elsewhere, Ie air leaks, I have done rough checks, and could not find anything. Cheers Ash

Guest ashnicholls Posted December 13, 2006 Yes thanks, I just want to know, how good the seal has to be though. My local bloke is spose to be good. He has said just change the spinldes, I have a 2nd hand pair, which have been checked to be ok. But I do not want to carry out the work or changing the spindles, if its not needed. Guest ashnicholls Posted December 13, 2006 He got it running sweet as anything the first time he tuned it, and only cost £100, to set up webers, timing and vernier pulley. But now has developed this problem, I think due to my incorrect setting up.
