Bassman 1 Posted December 10, 2006 Had a stone hit the windscreen on my Passat yesterday and there is a crack about 10cm long about half way up almost at the A-pillar on the passenger side. I presume this is laminated glass, does anybody know if I need a new windscreen or can cracks be repaired as well as chips? Ta
Ren 0 Posted December 12, 2006 (edited) I'm afraid that will be a new windscreen. The sizes you can repair are:- From the centre of the drivers seat going out 190mm each way inside the wiped area = 10mm (A Zone) The remainder of the drivers wiped area = 15mm (B Zone) The passenger side wiper area = 25mm (C Zone) and The remainder of the screen = 40mm (D Zone). Cracks can't be repaired at all due to the way the repair process is done. Hope that helps, sorry it probably wasn't the good news you were after. Ren. Thanks Ren, I had a dig about on the internet and could only find info and chip repair so I thought as much. Must givemy insurance company a call, just never get time at work!
