ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted December 10, 2006 Are Halfords battries any good. Mines starting to loose its charge. I had the AA out today the car would turn over with the starter (about same speed as nomal) but It wouldnt fire. I feared the worse thinking the pump had gone. He noticed that it was turning over a bit slow so connected up the boster pack and it fired straight up.
jackherer 543 Posted December 10, 2006 they're OK batteries with decent warranties but they are bloody expensive, twice the price of Motex/Traders (a motor factors) which is where I get them from.

Phil H 16 Posted December 10, 2006 I just got a nice juicy 065 for my MI16 for £27 from the factors, and went to GSF for a Bosch one for £42 for the wifes Golf Clipper.
hengti 2 Posted December 10, 2006 i put a Motaquip battery in mine 5 years ago - supplied as a 'genuine part' by my local Pug dealer. it was less than £30 and hasn't missed a beat. the car's a daily driver though, which obviously helps alot. can recommend them if they're still that cheap
ORB 227 1 Cars Posted December 12, 2006 Strange, mine has beena bit of a bitch to start of late, so today, I fitted a new battery. I went to work and got a MASSIVE thing off an MG ZR 2ltr Diesel. Tooks some fitting as I had to move the ally plate that holds the ignition amp and negative terminal and my 57-i got in the way a tad. What a difference. Never seen the car start so keenly, key in, turn, pop pop pop and we are away I think it is a 75 but I cant remember and outside is all the way out there so i am not going to look till the morning
Normski 1 Posted December 12, 2006 You can get a Bosch silver battery from Euro car parts for £31. I've been using one for the past two or three years without problem.
Anthony 1,003 Posted December 12, 2006 I've had no end of trouble with Bosch Silver batteries - I think they're fine on a regularly driven car, but they don't seem to like sitting around unused for any amount of time otherwise they seem to lose their charge and never work again properly. Just get a generic one from a motorfactor and they seem to work fine - type 065's (bit bigger than standard) with a 3 year warranty are something like £30 from my motorfactor (or just grab a nearly new one from a scrappy for a fiver if you're skint)
jackherer 543 Posted December 12, 2006 I picked one up from Traders for my mates 205 yesterday, £28.14 all in and they had a special christmas promotion which meant it came with four cans of lager! (that was for an 065 as Anthony just mentioned)
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted December 12, 2006 (edited) I was going to go for a Bosch silver from GSF but after what Antony said I dont think I will. What amp rating do I need anyway? I dont want to be having to move things around my engine bay to get one to fit. Edited December 12, 2006 by ALEX
ORB 227 1 Cars Posted December 12, 2006 Not a big issue really. Just take off the alloy plate that holds the amplifier, and boly it back on a bit further back
Beastie 1 Posted December 12, 2006 (edited) Years ago I used to fit Bosch batteries to customers cars because they represented the best value in the long term. More recent experience inclines me to side with Anthony on this one - I'd rather not handle yet another Bosch guarantee claim please! Up until the mid 1990s I always used to recommend fitting the most expensive batteries. I used to buy them dry and commision them myself and they would last for 8 to 10 years, providing good value for money. These days mid priced batteries with 3 year guarantees have made a nonesense of all that in terms of value and they are all I bother fitting. I usually go for Fiaam which often last for about 5 years on cars which have occasional use and which cost (from memory) about 30 quid trade for an 063 Edit: That reminds me: Is still have a large carbouy of acid and a filling bulb which isn't used anymore. Anyone need to do a replay of the acid bath murders? Edited December 12, 2006 by Beastie
welshpug 1,666 Posted December 12, 2006 as the guys mentioned just get the biggest one thatll fit easily in the bay, I put a spare fully charged battery from a 306 DT on my 205 a few weeks ago after I left the lights on and boy did it love starting
ORB 227 1 Cars Posted December 12, 2006 Densil batteries are the bolax
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted December 14, 2006 Not a big issue really. Just take off the alloy plate that holds the amplifier, and boly it back on a bit further back Mine's the later model with the ign amp & alloy plate on the drivers side inner wing. I've fit the alarm behind the battery and I dont fancy moving that. What is the factory Amp rating as on the original car battery?
Higgy 0 Posted December 14, 2006 I went for a Halfords battery with 'calcium' technology. Supposed to hold charge longer. It came with 4 year warrenty. I only use the car at weekends, and it starts fine if left for weeks on end (has alarm/immobiliser draining away at it). Higgy.
