matt205xs 0 Posted December 9, 2006 Left the mi idling today now i know the fan works anyway before turning ignition on i realised that the coolant temp guage was sitting on the second bar before ignition was on So i kept my eye on it and have noticed once it goes over the last bar the fan will come on until it goes back down below that bar, now looking in the manual it says the last bar is 110 deg firstly, why was the needle on the second bar before i put ignition on secondly, if i sorted that problem out i take it the fan would come on two bars before what it is now? Guest BrainFluid Posted December 9, 2006 The fans are not in anyway connected to the temp read out on the dash but technically yes, if you can manage to get the gauge to read an accurate temp then the fan temp kick in point should concur with the gauge. pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted December 10, 2006 Has your car got white dials or anything? It sounds like the guage pointers have been off & not refitted in the right place so its indicating too high. Either that or the insulation is getting thin somewhere & starting to short out on the block. Graham.
Lillpete 0 Posted December 10, 2006 Just a side thought as I don't know why your gauge would start higher, but is your fan temp switch from a gti or an Mi?? As I beleive the Mi engine runs hotter in general use and the fan is therefore set to cut in at a higher temperature. If you've got a 205 gti temp guage on your dash this can make it look high anyway even though it could be within perameters for the Mi???
matt205xs 0 Posted December 10, 2006 Looks to be the same as my old gti one, Or do the MI sensors look the same?
pug_ham 245 3 Cars Posted December 11, 2006 Have you changed the radiator or fan switch from the GTi one? If not then it can't have changed since pre mod. Senders are the same but do vary on indication but not by that much imo. The fan switch between the 205 & Mi differ only on a few & they share some switches so they'd be the same temperature when the fan cuts in. The only differences would be the temperature when the fan cuts in. 205 fan switches 405 fan switches Graham.
