The 'battery' light is on on the dash. Are there any common fixes/problems/things to check for anywhere regards this? Thanks

Either Battery is shafted or your alternator is buggered.

Have a go with your best multimeter across the Alternator, it should be putting out about 13v or more...

If that is ok, they your battery is likely to have a dead cell.

also check all connetions from battery to alternator, also check with a multimeter across battery loaded and unloaded , more than likely i would think its alternator :)

Mine comes on very slightly when everything is being used and thats with the more powerful 106 alternator meant for power steering. Is it on continually?

My 405 has always been like that too.

With the car stationary if the headlights are on and I put the brakes on you can see the headlights dim. Tried a new alternator but that hasn't helped.

The battery light is quite bright, its just started doing it the last couple of days. I've not risked taking the car further than 3 or 4 miles just in case until it gets sorted..
