axnutty 10 Posted December 7, 2006 Having looked at a few 205s now it has become apparant that they rust in the rear quarter panels/sill. Is there any particular reason for this? Like a spot weld that was never painted or something? Just as ive found a relativley solid car Id like to keep it that way! A large vat of Waxoyl is on route as I type - but if theres anything else people can suggest in the combat of rust? Particuarly as I unfortunatly am going to have to drive my 205 through the s*itty winter roads. It seems theres a load of underseal as standard, but is there anything people would suggest using. Is there a permanent dry underseal out there like the OE stuff? Rather than the stuff thats like Tar and gets everywhere. Any other panels/areas that are sunject to the rust worm that I should pay extra attention too? Wheel arches? Boot floor? Front panel? Just so I know to get an extra thick layer on. Is my best bet just to blow 20gallons of warm waxoyl into the sill until it seeps out of sunroof join?
bren_1.3 1 Posted December 7, 2006 front panel's rust up. front bottom of rear wheel arches rust. underneath of boot floor, and under the rear seats. and the bulkhead / floorpan join roughly square underneath the brake servo. thats all ive ever seen / dealt with. Grim.Badger 15 Posted December 7, 2006 Top of the suspension tower/strut top rusts, although I've only noticed it bad enough to worry on mine (v.bad) and another just starting to go bad that's in the scrappy around here. Rear arches seem to rust where the trim is attached as I've not seen it in the same places on base models. But basically just inside the arches, under the rear seats and the front and rear bulkheads behind the bumpers (the places that catch and hold water/mud)
johnrobertgordon 0 Posted December 7, 2006 To be honest I think for their age they are all holding up very well. Most of the 205's I have seen with serious rot are ones that have been through the hedge and repaired with pattern parts which rust for fun.
James_m 0 Posted December 7, 2006 The sills are a minor point of rust in my experiance, as above, inner wings, chassis legs and front panels are the main issue, oh and add under the rear seats/above the fuel tank. Take a look at MH's sorrento restoration for the places you would'nt usually expect...
