WildCards 0 Posted December 4, 2006 Hi, i've searched and found some very juicy information, but didn't find anything that would answer my question so... Would 15x8 Compomotive MO's fit a lowered 205 with a 309 rear beam and 309 front wishbones? and what offset would be required? or am I limited to 7" width with the offset around ET12/13. It's for a track dedicated car so i'm not too fussed about road legalities or race restrictions. Ta
sonofsam 5 Posted December 4, 2006 If its a Track car I wouldn't go messing about with off-sets, it will probably mess up your centre point steering.
Sam 4 Posted December 4, 2006 I run the 15x8s and to clear the brembos I've had to go with ET-5 (I think ET0 would be ok) to clear the calipers. You'll be fine with standard brakes imo. You'll need to do some hacking about at the rear DEFINATELY.
WildCards 0 Posted December 5, 2006 hmm, ok, cheers guy. I need to have a play around I think between 15x7,15x8 and 16x7 & 16x8 to see which fits the bill. I want extra grip, but it also needs to look good too.
sonofsam 5 Posted December 5, 2006 Wider tyres and wheels may not equal more grip, if anything you want a lighter wheel as possible.
pdd144c 0 Posted December 5, 2006 Wider tyres and wheels may not equal more grip, if anything you want a lighter wheel as possible. Eh?! Im running 16 x 8 group A's on mine. Like Sam I needed to run near ET0 for everything to fit. The worse part being the inner edge of the rear tyres. They sit very close to the trailing arms, so a good tyre choice/size is essential. smckeown 1 Posted December 5, 2006 Wider tyres and wheels may not equal more grip, if anything you want a lighter wheel as possible. I think it does mean more grip. I have played with cartest2000 and wider tyres asolutely makes a car faster round a track. OIf yourse you are right, there is the negative impact of higher unsprung weight, but i'd say that was less noticable than the grip benefits
cybernck 403 1 Cars Posted December 5, 2006 those 205 Maxi's have very wide tracks, as discussed recently.

Recently been reading about king pin inclination etc etc, so sorry maybe hadnt had my facts straight. Isnt making the track wider to do with suspension geometry and not just wider wheels? I want to run 8" as well but think without pas it's a no go
pdd144c 0 Posted December 5, 2006 I will let you know once I've driven it Julian! Should be ok, we have run 8s before with no PAS. Nick Williamson had 15 x 8 on his old car also. Let me know if you are looking for some as I have a spare set available.
WildCards 0 Posted December 5, 2006 pdd, are your Group A wheels the fancy Speedlines like Shiny's? Interesting thread about 8" wheels by the way guys, glad it wasn't just me scratching my noggin.
pdd144c 0 Posted December 5, 2006 No they are magnesuim Ford items. Very similar to the Escort Cosworth Monte Carlo wheels.

Rob Thomson 6 Posted December 5, 2006 I'm with sonofsam on this. The main benefits of wider tyres are... 1) they're more stable than narrow tyres (up to a point) 2) for a given durability they can be made from a softer/stickier compound than a narrow tyre (but only if the manufacturers bother). The increased contact area isn't really all that important in the grand scheme of things. Wider tyres are going to be grippier to a point, but the difference between 195 and 225mm wide tyres on something like a 205 isn't going to be all that great IMHO. I'm a bit cynical about the simulation software if it shows tyre width to be so critical.
Anthony 1,003 Posted December 5, 2006 Would 15x8 Compomotive MO's fit a lowered 205 with a 309 rear beam and 309 front wishbones? I reckon you've got no chance on the back without extensive arch modifications - 6" rims with 195 width tyres are fairly close to the trailing arm and touch the plastic arch when running a lowered 309 beam (only just, hence it "self-modifies" within a few miles and is no longer an issue), and I can't see how you'd successfully run 7" rims (with say 205 width tyres) let alone 8" rims with 225 width tyres without either bubble arches or going back to a 205 beam. markrnorton 0 Posted December 5, 2006 15x8" MO's ET0 to maintain clearance around swing arm, 205 axle. bubble arches car is on stands by the way
Sam 4 Posted December 5, 2006 They look like my wheels, do you have the original spacers mark?
vern 0 Posted December 5, 2006 I have 7 1/2 x 16 with ET35 offset and 20mm spacers, and 205 tyres on a standard cti, the only place it rubs is on the rear on full suspension compression (People in the back and big bumps etc).
