gats15 0 Posted December 4, 2006 Hi all, just started by car, unusually rough when starting, but worse than that there is overpowering exhaust fumes that seem to be coming into the car itself, with a pungent smell. Lots of smoke at the back too. Just had the radiator replaced. Car was going sort of ok for the mile or so i drove though but had to turn back cos of the fowl fumes even with the windows open!! Could this be the head gasket, or simply an exhaust problem?
hengti 2 Posted December 4, 2006 (edited) difficult to offer diagnosis, but would have thought that if it were an exhaust problem, it would be accompanied by lots of noise, indicating a blowing joint have you checked to see if you've got water on the dipstick? is your heater matrix leaking at all? check the carpet around the centre console - if it's moist, it could be that the matrix has failed, which might account for the fumes in the car (coolant smells quite sweet) Edited December 4, 2006 by hengti
