Couple Of Questions Re: Factory Dimma's..

Recommended Posts

Guest Guy

could anyone answer a few questions for me. I've tried searching but no luck.

i know the dimma kits are fibreglass, but were the original fatcory dimma kits also fibreglass?

how do you identify an original factory dimma car? I have heard from elsewhere there should be a plaque in the engine bay. can anyone confirm? if possible post a pic of said plaque?

did they only come in 1.9's or were they available in 1.6 too?

reason im asking is a friend has just bought a 205 dimma in purple with cream leather interior, it has original peugeot/dimma split rims on it, and he says it has '205 dimma' on the logbook on the model name.

just wanted to try and dentify if its a genuine factory dimma or not.

many thanks!

Guy

The factory kits are GRP if i recall correctly.

To identify a car it is possible to tell from the slats on the side and some other little signs. There is an article on the PSOOC members area from an interview i did years ago with Terry Pankhurst (Dimma UK) on how to spot a real Dimma. Not aware of the plaque.

There are 1.6's, but most are now 1.9's or Mi16's. The Turbo Technics was a popular conversion at the time too with many new cars having both from new.

Purple with cream leather may be the old A4 PUG car that was on the first max power cover, but so many have been resprayed now.

Let me know the reg (chairman@psooc.com) as I have records of a lot of the Dimmas.

There are a lot of cars people call Dimmas out there that are T16 / Gutmann / Montecarlo / cheap ebay copys.

Fingers crossed!!

Has he only just brought it into the area because I thought I'd seen most of the 205s around here by now and certainly can't remember a dimma.

There used to be a purple dimma owned by someone at Cheshire County Council in 2003, I think it was an H reg so might just be this one.

A 1.9 cam should be fine in a 1.6, although I'm not sure if it will make much of a difference.

Sorry for the OT :)
