307 Conversion - M/c Question

Recommended Posts

Guest Red_SLR

Hi, I have spent an hour reading loads of threads and come up with 2 possible M/Cs.

One from a 406 and one from a 306. Both were mentioned on other 307 brake threads.

I have looked on www.brakepart.co.uk and come up with 2 possibles:

93-97 306 1.8 8v Non ABS 20.6mm (BMC4755)

or

96-04 406 1.8 16v Non ABS 4x10mm (BMC4816)

Any ideas which one I need? I want to run the standard 205 servo and res.

Thanks!

Simon.

The 306 one you list is the same size as the standard 205 GTi MC, and hence no better in terms of pedal travel.

You need a pre-98 non-ABS 406 MC - not sure if the one you listed above is correct or not, as I know they changed the fitment on the later cars and yet that link above implies they are the same :S

To make matters more interesting it looks like I now have 2 options again... sorry!

1996 to 2004 406 1.8 16V

BMC4816 -8/97 Non ABS, 23.8mm 4 outlet £44.38

BMC5134 9/97- Non ABS, 23.8mm 2/4 outlet (contains 2 blanking plugs if required) £39.89

Now I was assuming that they were the same but one is cheaper than the other so must be some difference?

I've just bought this one and it fits the servo, it is smaller than the 1.9 205 one.

BMC5134 9/97- Non ABS, 23.8mm 2/4 outlet (contains 2 blanking plugs if required) £39.89

hmm to clarify things up... you want the 23.8mm m/c for 306 GTI-6 calipers with 57mm pistons!

for 206 GTI180 / 307 HDI calipers with 54mm pistons you want a 22.2 m/c off a 306 XSi for an example.

to recap, it's best to try them on with std m/c and then upgrade if you feel like it.

hope this helps :).

It's all a matter of personal preference at the end of the day - I still run a standard MC with my GTi-6 calipers and get on fine with it, and yet others cannot stand that combination.

406 MC will work fine with 307 calipers though and driven that combo and was fine with "normal" brake pedal travel.

Right then take 3..

306 93-97 2.0 8V and 16V

22.2mm NON ABS (BMC4756) £44.39

So am I on the right path now? Thanks!

I think the 306 one will only have two outlets but there is a 405 22.2mm mc that has four;

BMC4678, 22.2mm Brake master Cylinder
£37.28

w/f abs

(this cyl has 4 outlets, you need to blank 2 off

(plugs included)

Graham.
