 Right, car has been sat for a while, about two weeks and i've just tried starting it and......nothing!! Starter was fine and nothings been touched but the starter isn't working at all!! Not even a click!! So i'm guessing to begin with its the relay, but which one is it??

2 weeks isnt that long. How olds the battery? what condition is it in?. Either borrow a known good battery or charge your old one or borrow a neighbours car and some jump leads. Start with the basics first before you jump in the deep end.

Battery is new! Definitely has enough juice, but there's nothing, not even a click. Fuel pumps running!

Have you got an alarm or immobiliser fitted?

Check the blue solenoid wire on the starter- prob just needs a wiggle or a clean!. Run a wire direct from the connector on the solenoid and touch on the battery- motor should spin!

 Whats the best way to get to the starter motor? From above or below? And is it through the inlet manifold or one side or other?

It's probably the infamous brown multi connector which sits above the gearbox.

The connections corrode and cause starting issues.

you should be able to reach from above, from the left side of the inlet, as you look at it. I've just run a temp. wire from the solenoid to the ignition switch on mine until I can investigate further as to why I have no voltage to the blue wire. It was fine when I left home on Friday, left work o.k and then fcuked at the shop 1/2 mile later :D

chances are they wont have a clue, they came out to look at my mates non starting alfa and told him it needed an alternator  it took me five minutes with a jump lead bypassing the engine earth to get it running again...

It's well worth taking the inlet manifold off and giving both connections a good clean and replacing the spade connector.

Mine started giving me grief out of the blue on the way back from the North meet so I took the mani off (quite easy considering how much people try and stop you) to get a good look at the connectors and sure enough they were both badly covered in corrosion. You just can't see properly with the manifold on, let alone clean properly.
