GLPoomobile 958 Posted November 14, 2006 Thanks to a new job I'll be getting paid a travel allowance soon which I don't reckon I'll even need to dip into, so hopefully should have some pennies to spend on the Pug One of my priorities is to sort out some rot on the boot floor. Basically, where you have the holes towards the back of the floor which are usually bunged up with a plug that holds the carpet down, my plug has been missing for a while and the metal has rotted right through, to an area about 2 or 3 cm surrounding the hole. I also have a dent in the boot floor where I was carrying a rear beam and it jumped and smacked the floor over a large bump and in addition it has pulled away from the back panel slightly so that needs re-sealing too. So I'll be booking it into a body shop for repair (probably the one that Dino uses in Harringay). Just wondering what I should ask them to do about the hole. With the floor being that sort or corrogated shape I doubt they can just weld in a flat piece of steel.
hengti 2 Posted November 14, 2006 it'd be pretty easy to fabricate something that follows those contours or, you could cut that section of the floor out of a scrappie car
Paintguy 0 Posted November 14, 2006 I'd agree with the above - they should be able to make something to fit. Or just make the hole much bigger, and do a Cybernck!

GLPoomobile 958 Posted November 15, 2006 it'd be pretty easy to fabricate something that follows those contours or, you could cut that section of the floor out of a scrappie car Yeah, I thought about cutting it out of a donor car, but then I have the hassle of hiring some sort of portable cutting tool and finding a suitable car at a scrap yard, so it may just be better to spend a bit more and have them fabricate a suitable piece. Thanks for the advice.
hengti 2 Posted November 15, 2006 you could buy/borrow a monodex cutter they can be hard work and they don't like contours, but it'd probably be good enough to take a section of bootfloor out of a scrap car. you'd need some thick gloves to try and save your hands and maybe a handrill with a selection of bits so that you can cut a starting hole. hacksaw would probably be handy too. just a thought anyway
sonofsam 5 Posted November 15, 2006 Or you may get away with a Drill & Jigsaw method!?
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted November 15, 2006 I had the same problem. The holes were slowly getting bigger with rust. I rivited stainless steel M10 (or M8) Repiar washers to the boot floor over the 2 rear holes that hold the mat down. Perfect fit for the plastic bungs too. I then tarred up the underside after cleaning off the loose rust around the holes.
