Brake Set/up

Recommended Posts

Edp

I am currently building a 205 GTi6 and I'm trying to figure out the best option for the brake department. The car will be mainly for road use but you never know in the future a track day might happen. Its also going to be a standard GTi6 engine but again in the future who knows :(

I am going to run full braided lines from the M/C straight to the 4 calipers. I am using a GTi6 front set up and a standard 1.9 rear set up. I want to lose the rear compensators and put a bias valve in the engine bay. I've just mocked up this little drawing to show what i'm thinking and thought I would see what your opinions are. I have done various searches and see Anthony is running without a bias or compensators and he says its fine but there is also the opinion of the rear locking and spinning out.

In the drawing I would use a 1.6 M/C and T to the rear calipers.

looks spot on, as you mentioned there are some not using any sort of compensator/bias valve, a bit dodgy IMO unless its a pure race car which will never carry any more than a navigator and spare wheel/toolkit as the amount of luggage/crap in the boot affects the balance of the car drastically.

I was planning to loose the rear compensators as well and use a bias valve. It is a track car though so only ever has (or can) have 2 people in.

23.8mm MC is the only way to go with GTI-6 calipers

Not dodgy at all in my experience - I've done just about every extreme with a GTi-6 front and uncompensatored rear setup, from wet and dry trackdays, to the daily-commuter through to lugging engines, beams and whatever else in the boot and never once had any problems...

Will the larger master cylinder fit with a GTI-6 lump?

should fit, the overall dimensions dont really differ vastly, its the internals that differ.

what car does the 23.8mm MC come off? Gti6 by any chance?

And what exactly does a bias valve do?

Sorry for the thread hi-jack but I'm doing the same project as you so might aswell use this opportunity to learn!

Most people source them from a non-ABS 406, which are 4 port and bolt straight on if from a pre-1998 car.

And what exactly does a bias valve do?

Adjusts the front to rear brake bias - ie allows you to adjust how much braking the rear wheels do
