Ahl 4 Posted November 10, 2006 I don't know if this has been mentioned before, I was looking for a replacement fan for my 205, but all the 205/309 ones are pretty old and most are knackered these days. I got hold of a low-mileage 306 one however, and although the fan housing and impellor are different, the actual motor itself is pretty much the same. Its a bit of a pain in the arse swapping over the impellors and what not, but if you are careful a newer 306 motor could be an ideal way to refurbish your old knackered 205/309 heater fan. Its quite possible that 406 fan motors (and others) could be the same, but I didn't check.
Super Josh 4 Posted November 10, 2006 Is it a more powerful motor? I would like one with a little more Oomph, even though I fitted a brand new 205 one about 3 years ago. Does anyone have any ideas on a more powerful motor? Josh
yeti-dj 7 Posted November 10, 2006 ooo, a more powerful heater motor now that would be so SWEET, my heater is pants and takes ages to clear the windscreen on a chilly morning....
Ahl 4 Posted November 10, 2006 It seems powerful to me, but I've never had a new 205 fan to compare it to. It seems to have extra little resistor things in the motor itself. You should note that there is a seperate fan speed thermistor in the 205/309 too - this can also be a cause of slow/no heater fan. You can clean it up or replace it - it is located beside the heater fan, towards the centre console, held in by two phillips screws.
yeti-dj 7 Posted November 11, 2006 have tried a few different resistor things and the fan top speed stays the same so will give the 306 fan a go as there are heaps of them in the local scrappy. Have noticed that some of the resistors for the fan are 4 pin and some 5, any idea what the difference is for?
Ahl 4 Posted November 11, 2006 No idea on the difference. Also, the circuit board behind the fan speed dial itself can get misaligned and you won't be able to supply full voltage with the dial turned right round. Have you checked the voltage thats actually reaching your fan?
mos 1 Posted November 11, 2006 i would be very interested to see how this works out the heater fan is notorious bad even when the cars were new so a more powerful option would be great!
cybernck 402 1 Cars Posted November 11, 2006 i reckon my 405's blower is more powerful than my 205's.
KRISKARRERA 2 1 Cars Posted November 11, 2006 I was once told the early 406 blower fits the 405 and is more reliable. I know that on some 405s the fan mounting points are same as 205 so maybe a 406 blower would fit.
Ahl 4 Posted November 13, 2006 It would be interesting if the motors are the same, or similar enough fitment. Does the 405/406 have a seperate thermistor like the 205, or is it built into the fan itself?

Miles 331 1 Cars Posted November 14, 2006 406 ones are completly different, They shift allot of air and there bigger, well on the AC one's anyway
