Doof 11 Posted November 6, 2006 I've had my 309 wishbones on the front for probably about 700 miles now and I checked the tyres today and theres noticeable wear on the inside, must more than the outside. At this rate i'd expect to kill a set of tyres in about 6000 miles just because of the inside. Should it be this severe or was it perhaps already like this before? Might have to take them off if this is the case!
Anthony 1,003 Posted November 6, 2006 Have you checked the tracking? Both my 205's with 309 wishbones wear the front tyres evenly, whereas with 205 wishbones I would always scrub the outside of the passenger tyre prematurely.
Jonmurgie 2 Posted November 6, 2006 Defo get the alignment checked... the 309 wishbones alone don't give enough camber to increase any major inner tyre wear
Doof 11 Posted November 6, 2006 Hmm ok at least that means I dont have to go taking them off. I took the car in for its MOT last month and got the track done while it was there because I had new track rods so it should be right. The steering feels find anyway no pulling to the sides and the wear is the same on both tyres. I suppose I'll have to just keep an eye on them.

Jonmurgie 2 Posted November 6, 2006 What tyres you running?
Doof 11 Posted November 6, 2006 Can't remember to be honest, nothing too special. Something like Falkens, relatively hard compound.
Alastairh 47 Posted November 6, 2006 Yeah exactly what Anthony said, as i've been having these issues. Bought a set of new eagles running Avo coilovers on flipping hard with 205 wish bones. Killed my passenger outer edge. So bought a new one. Picked up a 309 set of bones and shafts from my scrappy, but was in a hurry to fit them and didn't replace the bushes. Got it all tracked up by my mate for a beer. then 5000 miles later (now) the bushes have gone and just noticed my inner edge on the drivers tyre is screwed because the tracking is out from the bushes. New bushes, new tyre and a re track on the cards for me now... So yeah get your tracking tripple checked. Alastair
Anton green 12 1 Cars Posted December 23, 2006 A wishbone bush failed on my 309 boned 205 and wiped the inside shoulder grip off rediculously quickly. Thankfully I polybushed them in the nick of time (feels great) and put the fronts on the rear / rears on the front. Really only the shoulder was worn so will not effect the car too much at all on the rear running no neg camber. I think if there is a problem affecting the tracking with this mod, it will show up much faster / have more of an adverse effect on components.
Paintguy 0 Posted December 23, 2006 Another vote for checking the tracking. If you didn't adjust it when you put the 309 wishbones on, then the longer lower arms will cause you to have too much toe out, which will wear the inside edges of the tyres. Mine's set almost dead ahead (by eye ), and are wearing perfectly evenly
Doof 11 Posted December 24, 2006 Must be then, i did get it done when i fitted everything because I had new track rods. I'm gonna get some new tyres soon, so i'll probably get it checked again when they go on. Im not sure what the standard settings are, should it just be 0 degrees? Anthony 1,003 Posted December 26, 2006 Im not sure what the standard settings are, should it just be 0 degrees? Yeah, just get the tracking set for 0 degrees (parallel) and it should be grand
huwjones 0 Posted December 29, 2006 From my experience, a tracking check is only as good as the bloke checking it I went to a couple of big name tyre fitters with their fancy laser trackers, but it seems no one could track my 306 properly. In the end I went to a friend who owns a garage, he had an absolutely ancient mirror+protractor tracking set and he got it spot on - he'd been using it all his life
