jerseypug 1 Posted November 5, 2006 re fitted the head gasket, oil pressure is great, temp nice and normal, no oil mixing with the water and the expansion tank is not pressurising. the only problem is the tapping noise comeing from the head. i have been told that as the oil had so much water with it and then i ran it shortly with the head gasket the wrong way around, it might of nocked the hydrolic tappets for six. if so how long does it take to re pressurise them? i have driven 25 miles gently. any ideas would be appreciated. i have kept hold of the engine hoist just in case i need to remove the engine for a sixth time this year! jackherer 543 Posted November 5, 2006 it may be because you've been driving it gently, in my experience they need some revs to go fully quiet after the heads been off.
jerseypug 1 Posted November 5, 2006 sounds like a good enough reason to give it a good thrashing.
welshpug 1,657 Posted November 5, 2006 the oil pressure doesnt rise to full unitll about 3.5k IIRC.
jerseypug 1 Posted November 5, 2006 would it have to rev over 3500 for long? just done a quick drive with short blasts but still sounds the same.
jackherer 543 Posted November 5, 2006 not long really, a quick revving in neutral has always done it for me.

jerseypug 1 Posted November 6, 2006 do the hydrolic tappets ever break? is there a way of testing them?
