Super Josh 4 Posted November 3, 2006 you'll be wanting a Steibel Nautilus I second that, do a search. Very loud @ 139 dB and available here for £16 + Delivery. Have one on my car and it fits where the standard air horn sits. Josh
hengti 2 Posted November 3, 2006 if you're most interested in saving space and weight, just put one of those cr*ppy small electric horns on people will laugh at you when you get angry with it though

chunkymonkey 0 Posted November 3, 2006 NAUTILUS every time. hooooonnnnnnkkkkk in a ship in the night styley well the 19 gti is two units isnt it and must weigh a blooming ton im going to take it off and throw it in the bin if i get a motorbike horn as sauns sugests will it work with the wiring that goes to the 19 gti horn wiring isnt my strong point cheers gaz
hengti 2 Posted November 3, 2006 an electric horn would be a doddle to fit - just bolt it to the inner arch (or whatever). you'll need to make sure it has a good ground contact where you bolt it on though. other than that, it's just a straight swap of the wiring onto the new horn. i reckon you'll probably save all of about 500ish grammes it might even go faster

de Noir 0 Posted November 10, 2006 Even minor front accidents end with broken air horn. I got the unpure way and fitted VW-Audi two tone electric horn on my previous GTI... ...It adds lightness and sounds business too.
V8Pete 0 Posted December 17, 2006 The compressor buzz on my air horn is louder than the horn itself. Are the compressors normally quite noisy or is mine poked?
welshpug 1,657 Posted December 17, 2006 clean and lube the compressor, my mi16's horns are deafening!!!
Super Josh 4 Posted December 17, 2006 The compressor buzz on my air horn is louder than the horn itself. Are the compressors normally quite noisy or is mine poked? I think that their is a gauze filter where the air gets sucked in. These clog up over the years and strangle the thing. Time to clean it out. Josh
Ahl 4 Posted December 17, 2006 clean and lube the compressor, my mi16's horns are deafening!!! What is the best stuff to lube the compressor with?
Simes 248 2 Cars Posted December 17, 2006 The twin air horn set from Halfrauds is powered by exactly the same compressor as standard. All this fits in behind the headlamp nicely.
welshpug 1,657 Posted December 17, 2006 grease on the spindle and 3 in 1 on the actual compressor bit itself. while its apart clean up the brushes and contacts carefully with fine wet n dry.
ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted December 18, 2006 I bought a new 1.9 air horn from the dealer and it only lasted about 6 months. Wasn't cheap either. I ended up going for the 1.6 gti twin electric option. One high pitch and one low pitch horn. My local car parts shop had a them on the shelf that looked exactly the same as the genuine Peugeot ones for a 10th of the price. Go for electric ones unless you fancy servicing the horn every year. The position is too exposed for it to last through winter IMO
Hilgie 16 2 Cars Posted December 19, 2006 Use a BMW 7-series horn on EACH side...just normal electrisch ones (no compressor needed) but what a sound!
