Edd-XS 0 Posted October 30, 2006 Trying to reassemble the Engine to get it fitted after getting it back from the rebuilders, and the clutch cover plate bolts were missing. I got 205 parts to send me some down, and so assumed they were the right ones (they are an m6 thread). When i went to fit the clutch at the weekend, the m6 bolts they supplied me with are miles too small, so i went to use some m8 bolts I had, and they were too big?! Do i need to get specialist bolts from pug for this? I was lead to believe they were a standard size... And yes its the mi flywheel and clutch, from a 1989 Mi if it makes any difference? alloy finned sump lump too. Thanks Edd
Ryan 99 Posted October 30, 2006 The clucth cover bolts changed at some point from being M7 (which is a stupid unusual size that pug seems to love) to being M8.
inferno 1 Posted October 30, 2006 u need the bolts from an mi flywheel/clutch i had the same problem a while back
pug_ham 244 3 Cars Posted October 30, 2006 Sump bolts & thermostat housing bolts are the same thread. AFAIK all Mi flywheels have M7 bolts. Graham.
Ryan 99 Posted October 30, 2006 I got it the wrong way round. Some of the early flywheels are M8 (mine is) but most are M7.

Rom 0 Posted October 31, 2006 Heh..i had this on my rebuild few weeks back too !! Damn engine sellers not including cover bolts I got some from our 'nut n bolt man' Who comes round in his van. Engineers wanted them to balance everything. I ordered the cheap 8mm hoping they would fit,as flywheel was miles away so couldnt check. Ofc they didnt, and i refused to pay 4 quid each. Edd...did they actually agree to sell you 6 ? As they wanted to charge me for a bag of 10, and that was trade to my work ! We still need to hook up at some point man
Edd-XS 0 Posted November 1, 2006 haha sounds like your getting on better with your build then I am! Yeah he was gonna charge me for 7 as they had 2 in stock and they have to order them in packs of 5, which is why i assume they tried selling you 10. Not to fear though cos super sams come to the rescue again so my one day off this week shall hopefully be spent getting the thing in! Edd
Jer309GTi 3 Posted November 2, 2006 Can I just confirm that the bolt in this pic is a clutch cover bolt. My engine came with a box of odd nuts and bolts and I think these are the right ones. They have an allen key head (6mm iirc) and screw into the flywheel fine. Cheers
Edd-XS 0 Posted November 2, 2006 Yep pretty sure those are the ones mate ) if it fits into the flywheel nicely and you got 6 of them then im sure they'll be fine anyway! Edd
pug_life 0 Posted November 3, 2006 got a box of these at home.... might stick them in the wirewheel and clean them up if pug charge £4 for new ones
sonofsam 5 Posted November 3, 2006 I tried selling my overs on ebay.No joy, not even @ £2.99 for six Did they turn up OK Edd?
Edd-XS 0 Posted November 3, 2006 Hope that pic answers your question! Yea they arrived a couple of days ago but no1 was in to recieve them! So popped into town first thing this morning and after a couple of hours work had the engine up and in-place! taken almost 4 months to get the bits I need to get it off the ground and in place! Thanks alot dude really appreciate it! Cheers to ma boy Phil aswell for helping me get the engine into place. Useful tip, when trying to get the gearbox on, if you cant get the splined shaft and clutch plate to line up, chuck a driveshaft into the diff and twist, saved alot of faffing about that did! Thanks again Edd
Rom 0 Posted November 4, 2006 Your def beating me Edd ! My replacement Big Ends only came yesterday.
