Nathan 0 Posted October 29, 2006 I'm thinking about putting a turbo in onto my engine (1.8 s16). I will undertake virtually all the work myself (well maybe not all the wiring) and I was just wondering how much its likely to cost (ball park figure). I don't want stupid power, hoping to run around 7-8psi so shouldn't need fancy pistons, but I will run a mappable ECU. Cheers
johnrobertgordon 0 Posted October 29, 2006 Whats the standard CR on your engine?
sonofsam 5 Posted October 29, 2006 Turbo kit for your engine is here I beleive http://www.dp-engineering.nl/EN/products/t...ponent_package/ Obviously you can do it cheaper with second hand parts:) However for £500 ish you could buy and fit a XU10J2CTE like John and myself have...150hp straight out the box so to speak. johnrobertgordon 0 Posted October 29, 2006 The manifolds in them Dp kits are stunning, still yearning for the "love collector" for mine.
TEKNOPUG 3 Posted October 29, 2006 I'd budget a grand minimum. You might me able to do it for less, but I'd reckon on £750 for manifold and turbo unless you can make the manifold yourself and get a cheap second hand turbo. Then there are the changes required to the engine management etc.

Standard internals will be fine if its mapped correctly. £400 for pipework and IC is a little overkill. You can buy a Cossie IC for less than £50 and source parts piping from other cars. But £400 is good price is you use brand new, custom parts.
sonofsam 5 Posted October 30, 2006 I only paid £120 for that massive jap spec IC, and the IC pipework kit was just under £100 ..
pdd144c 0 Posted October 30, 2006 Better to budget over than under...
johnrobertgordon 0 Posted October 30, 2006 and source parts piping from other cars. And super glue them together so that the first time you give the car some welly the boost blows them to bit...........Oh no sorry only a bunch of rip off twats would do that sort of thing. tom_m 0 Posted October 30, 2006 (edited) Better to budget over than under... true dat, but i think a decent fanimold will cost you a bit more than 250 quid Edited October 30, 2006 by tom_m
pdd144c 0 Posted October 30, 2006 Thought 205 parts ones were around that price?
tom_m 0 Posted October 30, 2006 aye, but they won't fit the 1.8 16v head, they are 8v only

sonofsam 5 Posted October 31, 2006 is that an offer? il give you £500 to do it to my 205! Well, seeing as the notoriously expensive Ecosse charge just over £4k for this conversion.I still think your £500 is a bit shy
Arahan 4 Posted November 1, 2006 Well, seeing as the notoriously expensive Ecosse charge just over £4k for this conversion.I still think your £500 is a bit shy haha! cheers anyway then! Im actually considering doing this conversion though, with a Xantia Activa engine, Im searching through all the old posts to see what parts I need, and how difficult the wiring will be! Would you sort the wiring for me? If you did yours that is! and for a price! ha!
sonofsam 5 Posted November 1, 2006 Yeh I did my own wiring, can certainly have a look at yours for you when the time comes:) In all honesty though with the info on this forum you may want to crack at it yourself.not really that difficult.
Ant 2 Posted November 2, 2006 Sams right. Everything you need is on here, and the conversion can be done to a cheap budget if you dont want to have lots of fancy bits. Mine owes me less that £100 for the parts A cossie IC cost me £25 45 degree 2 1/2 inch pipe cost me £5 90 degree 2 1/2 inch pipe £10 each x 2 Loads of hoses from the scrappy - free, but i bet you could get them cheap 1 meter of 2 1/2 rubber hosing - £9 heat shrink wrap + solder £5 Cambelt - £9 Thats about it i think - Just do a search and you will find most answers or ask
