Martin W 0 Posted October 27, 2006 Ok I've always used mintex M1144 brake pads and I rate the quite highly but I use them on track with GTI-6 calipers and disks I get fade every time. Big question is weather I go for the 55 or 66 compound?? Just to clarify my 205 is for track only (trackdays) but does anyone have experience of mintex 55 and 66 compound? I'm inclined just to try M1166 pads but wold appreciate anyones expenience of both pads. Cheers Martin
jackherer 543 Posted October 27, 2006 I've got 1166 with standard 1.9 discs and calipers, they're excellent on track but they're also fine to go down the shops in. Apart from the price I see no reason to go for anything less than 1166 and I have no idea why people say they need to be warmed up etc.
Adnic69 0 Posted October 27, 2006 See if you can get SBS pads. They are Swedish or Scandanavian. I have them on the ELise and Can't fade them, have tried very very hard. £100 ish for fronts.
Martin W 0 Posted October 27, 2006 I should mention M1144's fade due to left foot braking! Hence my reasons for the 66 compound. Glad to hear they dont need too much while warming up, that was one one my reservations.
smckeown 1 Posted October 27, 2006 I always use 1155's, but if people are experiening good from cold with 1166s and they are the same price, then i'd probably go with those; especially as you are LFBing Sean

My main concern was the M1166's 'not' working from cold. Guess I'll just try them and see what happen. should be ok.
jackherer 543 Posted October 27, 2006 bite when cold is actually better than the green stuff I had before IMO. I paid almost £100 delivered which is a lot but I didnt shop around as I needed them pretty urgently for a trackday.
Martin W 0 Posted October 27, 2006 Dont wish to get into any debates but I found Greenstuff useless!! Mintex are ace
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted October 27, 2006 Pagid RS4's are great, work well from cold, last well and very hard to get them to fade, Id have them anyday over Mintex

Just for a comparison, are they the equivilant to Mintex 1155's or 66's? Also, what pads fo the Toyo 205's you prepare use? Thanks Martin
smckeown 1 Posted October 28, 2006 Pagid RS4's / (Blues I believe they are referred to as) are regarded as the daddies of track pads. theey are expensive but you get what you pay for. I have read reports that they last a very long time and are excellent. I can't see tham performing any better than 1166s myself, just lasting longer
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted October 28, 2006 I used the Pagid RS4's when I was racing in the Road Saloon Champinship and then onto Toyo's that's how long they lasted, The disc's wear out more than anything and I havn't got a bad word to say about them, They also went onto my road 205 which took a good 5 miles a day of left foot braking in the winter on my way to work, great fun. Never used the 1166, Have used the 1155 which are fine for most but any really serious use and these fade
jackherer 543 Posted October 28, 2006 Dont wish to get into any debates but I found Greenstuff useless!! Mintex are ace I dont disagree, I was only comparing the initial bite from cold as its a commonly held belief that 1166 are poor until warm and its not true.. saveloy 8 Posted October 31, 2006 Martin, have you considered the cause of your fade? Notably, over heating. It may be worth trying to partition the pads from the piston with stainless steel plate. This has worked a treat on my set up.
