Thread Long Enough For Eccentric Mounts?

Recommended Posts

Dixon

When I ordered my GAZ Coilovers a year ago I asked for them to be made so that I can use eccentric mounts in the future.

As now is the future and I want to get some compbrake eccentric mounts I'd just like to first check that they did make the thread/shaft longer so that I am able to use them.

By looking at the following photos would you say that this is true?

Or could anyone with GAZ coilovers show pics of theirs so I can compare please.

Thanks,

Dixon.

I know that you have to send them to Gaz for extra machining to fit eccentric top mounts but if your have already been done or not but I can't say if they are long enough, although looking at the (shaky) picture I've attached they look the same.

You should have some special shouldered nuts for use when you fit them.

Graham.

Dixon,

I have a set of Gaz coilovers on my car and they look exactly the same as yours when they are fitted to the car. (I do not have eccentric top mounts)

Graham, are yours extended GAZ strut inserts?

Have you got any pics without the top mout on like my first pic at the top?

Cheers.

Do the shouldered nuts come with the compbrake kit or are they something I'd have to get seperately?

they look the same as my gaz as well at first glance, what extra machining is involved?

When fitting eccentric top mounts instead of the normal concentric type, you need a longer threaded part I think. So that you can still get the nut on the top.

But I'm not completley sure hence the asking, does the shouldered nut solve this or do you require it still even if the thread is longer?

If the thread is longer you don't if the top hat spacer has also been m/c'd to fit.

I popped down to Gaz and they did it on the spot (after a quick call to Gaz).

So something else needs modifying too!?

How come these don't just bold together like normal concentric top mounts?

I got my eccentrics from Rally Design, the top hat spacers were a generic item in the

kit which had to be modified for the application..........

Is that a big job or quite easily done? As the ones from Compbrake look very similar to those shown on the Rally Design website.

Looks like I'm just going to have to buy them and see how well they fit and go from there I guess?!

Also on a side note, is the car ok to drive with one of the top mount bolts snapped off?

As one broke off when I was fitting my Quaiffe ATB diff at the weekend and I've not been able to try it out and I'm busting to see how much difference it's made!

drill the rest off and stick an M6 nut and bolt on it.

They aren't mine, just some I got from 309Pug & sent onto Kristian (B1ack_Mi16) & they aren't even Gaz, they are Bilstein. :(

The shoudered nut sits down inside the top mount & clamps the bearing but I think you have to buy them seperately from Gaz but the machining still needs to be done.

Surely they will have a copy of the order & should be able to tell you over the phone if they did the work you requested when you placed the order with them?

Ah of course, didn't think of that! DUH! :( Cheers, that will give me more time to figure out what I'm doing with the eccentric mounts.

Ah I see, I'll give GAZ a ring and see if they've still got the order details and if they supply the shouldered nuts.

Thanks.

I assume its these 4 little top hat spacers that need modifying/drilling out?

Those are the chaps, although they look a little different to the Ral Des ones, so may be OK.

With the Ral Des, the mounts don't line up with the original 3 stud holes on the turret, so you may

have some drilling to do there too.......

i had the same problem with the rally design mounts. the shoulderd nut they supplied was a little too short , so i had a longer ones made in stainless steel.

didn't cost that much and looks nice.

iv'e put a photo on photobucket ( 702 )

you can see the new nut.

i might have the nuts that came with the mounts somewhere, they might fit your set up.
